How much has Thompson been paying you to be his Sarah Sanders all these years?

Yep, I agree.  If things were positive, then the league office and the ADs would be saying something to the effect of: "We feel confident in our position, and are positive/confident that the the MWC will continue to build upon its 19-year relationship with the LVBowl."

I called all this a year ago.

New MWC Bowl with obvious name:

Sin City Bowl

Get Amazon.con or DraftKings to sponsor.

Get whatever team you can get from Big Ten.

Las Vegas Bowl will join the rotation for BCS and National Championship eventually.  The only MWC school that will ever play in that new improved Las Vegas Bowl is UNLV.

There's being a Negative Nellie or Debbie Downer and then there's :lalalala:

Objectively speaking, there was reason to have hope for this conference during its first dozen years of existence. Most of us were damn proud of how much a fledgling conference had achieved during its pre-teen years. But over the last half dozen years very little positive has occurred and a lot negative has transpired. Only an idiot would believe that, since Thompson and His Band of Idiots put out a press release denying reports it has lost the LV Bowl as a home for its title game, such reports are untrue.

Craig Thompson isn't Captain Bly. He doesn't have the luxury that his masters remain clueless as to how inept his leadership has been. He needs to go immediately.

Boom goes the dynamite.

If they do it before New Years Eve, some time from Dec. 26th - Dec. 28th it would still work in this capacity. The 29th is when the hotels all start to really fill up.

Problem is that bowl games have other events than just the game. I think the current LV bowl is essentially a three day event series. Will be hard to squeeze that in especially with the NFL and the NHL in town then.

I really don't see the casinos having much of a taste for a 2nd bowl game and even IF, it will be the ugly duckling squared compared to the main event.

Of course it will be, but it would still be a fun game at a great destination that you could actually get fan bases excited to travel to. I don't think you will get fans of P5 schools to be excited about traveling to Boise in December in the same way.

That really sucks

The cat is almost all the way out of the bag, , so I really don't need to hold my tongue any longer. This move has a lot to do with UNLV.

UNLV will soon announce they are leaving the conference. They are going to split their programs. FB is going to the Big Sky, everything else is going to the Big West.

The reasoning is they want to pour as much money into men's basketball as possible and they have to make cuts elsewhere.

They want to hire a big time, proven coach, give him a mega salary, and keep him long term.  Supposedly, they are willing to cut some programs If necessary.

UNLV believes men's basketball is their best opportunity to increase sports revenue. They also don't consider this move to be permanent.  The thinking seems to be that it is necessary to take a step back, get stronger and move forward.  Apparently, they don't believe their situation will improve under the current circumstances and they need to make a change.

Bingo.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Of the 14 schools which have been full-time members of this conference, none has underachieved in athletics to the degree UNLV has and it's not even close. (That includes resources-deprived SAN!!!)

If the quality of UNLV's medical center is the same as the quality of UNLV's athletic department, it's the last place in the USA somebody should go if they needed an operation.

I'm still kind of sad to see them go. A silver lining would be if San Ho left with them, but I haven't heard a thing about that.

The biggest problem with MWC bowl tie-ins minus Las Vegas now, is that none of the locations are vacation locations. I have no problem supporting my team but I'm much more likely to spend the cash to take the family if it is being played somewhere worth while going to during the holiday season. This rules out Bosie and Albuquerque. That leaves Tucson and Honolulu. They need to put all of their resources into one of those locations and try to secure the best match up possible (AAC champ or whatever P5 match up).

In 2 years football moves into a 1.6 billion dollar stadium. We are spending 27 million on a football building under construction right now and you say unlv is moving football to the big sky.

All because we can’t afford a hoops coach?

No offense but this is the dumbest post of all time on this board.

No one has ever marveled over decisions made by UNLV's admin.

The timing does seem odd. But so did the firing of Rice mid season and the debacle that followed.

Only in Vegas.

Not buying @Aslowhiteguy has sources that close to UNLV.

@RebelRobert called this out last year.

This is really bad news for the MWC.  Sucks.

My guess is that the PAC12 - ACC dump the Sun Bowl in El Paso, and that the MWC has to take that bowl over vs CUSA or something.

The problem is the PAC-12.   They are falling behind and in desperation are scheduling only other P5 schools.  Every other P5 conference plays at least at least 1 bowl game against a P5 opponent but the PAC-12.

If you want to fight back stop watching any PAC-12 games until that conference breaks apart.

I’ve taken it a step further and have limited the P5 games I watch.  I know my not viewing them doesn’t really effect anything but I feel like I’m accomplishing a small something with my protest.
