Winning?

So the EU, Canada, and Mexico are all going to retaliate and place trade tariffs on the US this summer. That's 3 of the 4 largest trading partners for the US. When I had said presidents are usually given too much credit or blame for the economy, that didn't take into account for starting a f'ing trade war. Jesus Christ.

Trump invokes War of 1812 in testy call with Trudeau over tarriffs

"According to the sources, Trudeau pressed Trump on how he could justify the tariffs as a "national security" issue. In response, Trump quipped to Trudeau, "Didn't you guys burn down the White House?" referring to the War of 1812."

Hey, going to be great for my home equity as home prices are about to sky rocket even further.

You should take out a home equity loan and buy various high-end leisure items. Worked great last time it happened.

Planning is an exercise of power, and in a modern state much real power is suffused with boredom. The agents of planning are usually boring; the planning process is boring; the implementation of plans is always boring. In a democracy boredom works for bureaucracies and corporations as smell works for skunk. It keeps danger away. Power does not have to be exercised behind the scenes. It can be open. The audience is asleep. The modern world is forged amidst our inattention.

The trade war was started long ago by these & other countries taxing what we export to them. Our political leaders for the last 50 years have been far to timid in dealing with this. Free and fair trade does not exist like so many people naively believe. Our political leaders have been to naive about this for way too long.

If we get into a tit for tat trade war with other countries we will certainly win. We have huge trade imbalances with all of them because of THEIR import taxes and this gives us tremendous leverage. They have a lot more to lose in a trade war than we do. China has pretty much built their modern economy on our stupidity when it comes to trade.

We won't win. So much of our wealth is based on international trade that we have a lot further to fall.

Sure a lot of people win with the way international trade is  set up now, however their are also a lot of losers. Which is pretty much why Trump flipped Michigan, Wisconsin, Pensylvania, and almost got Minnesota.

Ok, but if you think a trade war has ANY winners other than commodity traders, you're drunk
