President Trump has personally pushed U.S. Postmaster General Megan Brennan to double the rate the Postal Service charges Amazon.com and other firms to ship packages, according to three people familiar with their conversations, a dramatic move that probably would cost these companies billions of dollars.

Brennan has so far resisted Trump’s demand, explaining in multiple conversations occurring this year and last that these arrangements are bound by contracts and must be reviewed by a regulatory commission, the three people said. She has told the president that the Amazon relationship is beneficial for the Postal Service and gave him a set of slides that showed the variety of companies, in addition to Amazon, that also partner for deliveries.

Despite these presentations, Trump has continued to level criticism at Amazon. And last month, his critiques culminated in the signing of an executive order mandating a government review of the financially strapped Postal Service that could lead to major changes in the way it charges Amazon and others for package delivery.

Few U.S. companies have drawn Trump’s ire as much as Amazon, which has rapidly grown to be the second-largest U.S. company in terms of market capitalization. For more than three years, Trump has fumed publicly and privately about the giant commerce and services company and its founder Jeffrey P. Bezos, who is also the owner of The Washington Post.

Man who does the Amazon think the United States Post Office is that they ask them to act as some sort of...postal delivery service.

#MAGA! #AmeiricaFirst. Unless the CEO owns a newspaper that reports stuff you don’t like.

Amazon is probably the biggest source of revenue for the USPS.

Or you're the Chinese government willing to invest $500M in a deal that will profit you.

I normally don’t agree with Trump, but Amazon and others need to start paying their fair share.  There needs to be an even playing field with the brick and mortar businesses.  That’s not to say I agree with how he’s going about getting them there.

Amazon is paying the rates that were set for them. I don't know why people seem to think they're getting a free ride or an unfair deal. The largest share of USPS revenue comes from package services.

Me thinks you need to be introduced to the 2006 Postal Accountability and Enhancement Act and have a love affair with it. Then get back to us with the details.

And you always put people down who don't agree with you. That's a sign of deep insecurity. :(

Only certain people that dish it out in OT in droves and should be able to hack it.

It sounds like you might have a tough time with it. But that's OK, there's lots of other soft people that can't take it either.

You're right, I had it a little wrong... package deliveries is the fastest growing part of USPS business. They were also the largest revenue increase last year, which is what I was remembering.

This was very similar to the 2nd article of impeachment against Nixon - Using the office of president & influence to harm perceived political enemies.

I agree with you UNLV2001. Trump is feeling the heat and doing anything he can to distract people from his FBI investigation. He's obviously paranoid like Nixon was.

Amazing how liberals would run to defend Amazon against the USPS because of course, Trump!  You guys look at every damn thing ONLY if it hurts Trump or not!
The USPS is LOSING MONEY,  they should not be selling their service to Amazon for a huge discount.  A volume discount, yes, not a discount that loses money on  every package!

They aren't dude. From the link above,

"Those rates are kept under wraps. That said, we do know the Amazon deal is at least a break-even venture.

That’s because the 2006 Postal Accountability and Enhancement Act made it illegal for USPS to price parcel delivery below its cost".

Remember that every argument you have with someone on MWCboard is actually the continuation of a different argument they had with someone else also on MWCboard.

Stop being an idiot. The 2006 Postal Accountability and Enhancement Act made it illegal for the USPS to charge less than break even rates. Stop believing everything that Mango Mussolini tells you.

The postal service has been losing money for decades. While I think Trump’s a moron for calling out Amazon — it is a valid point. At what point does the US stop throwing good money after bad? I don’t have any clue as to that answer. I also would guess that if the post office were to go public it would impact his small town political base to the core because hundreds of subsidized post offices around the country would close and thousands would lose their jobs.

Such as if one were to use the IRS to go after the opposing party...
