To be honest, limiting the revenue to just Basketball doesn't really show the actual disparity between schools. Here is a list to look at: http://sports.usatoday.com/ncaa/finances/

This isnt limited to just Basketball, lol, all facts and figures come directly from the most recent DoE report which you can find here:

Consider? That's a strong word.

If we do this correctly BYU doesn't have much to "consider" but listen to terms or bugger off.

You're missing the point. Take a look at the list I posted and see the total revenue for each school that you are competing with. Louisville's annual revenue is $112M; Kentucky $132M; UNC $94M. Closer to home you are competing with Oregon $111M, UCLA $98M, Arizona $85M. Hell SDSU is at $56M. And this list only includes public universities.

What does this have to do with our need to increase revenue as a condition of leaving the WCC? And that SDSU figure is definitely not right based on the Department of Education. I dont trust that list.

Agreed. If Gonzaga joins the MW, the issue won't be whether BYU seeks to leave the WCC but merely whether BYU will return to the MW, join the AAC or - far less likely - attempt to start a new conference.

BYU should have explored doing the latter immediately after SDSU was compelled to put its tail between its legs and remain in the MW. SDSU was never desirous of joining the Big West and wasn't exactly elated that going forward, it would be joined in the MW by SJSU and USU. I can't recall the composition of the WAC right then but there obviously were half a dozen other western schools which would have joined as well as Hawaii and Idaho. Maybe SDSU, Hawaii and Idaho weren't then situated to go indy for football but does anybody really know that? Holmoe? Holmoe? Buehler?

Boom goes the dynamite.

I'm pointing out that $26M or so is pretty small when compared to the budgets of the P5s. Does the DOE list include public subsidies?

Well certainly thats true. P5 Revenue is astronomical in comparison. Perhaps im not tracking your point.

I dont think anyone here is insinuating that The Zags or Aztecs or anyone in the WCC or MWC is on par with P5 teams in cash flow.

Schools should definitely be given T3 television rights... that should be a no-brainer.

For all Sports (Womens, mens, etc.), SDSU made almost $37 mill during the last reported fiscal year (2016) according to the DoE, Gonzaga made about $26 mill.

Here is a better list. Little wary of it since they under-report our undergrad enrollment by about 4K. But our total revenue was $36.9M and expenses were $51.5M which means we had a subsiidy of about $14.6M. If this is for 2016 then it does appear that a $56M current budget is right in the ballpark.

Must be the "Not Allocated by Gender/Sport" line, which i missed on the DoE site, but ill add them in:

"Not Allocated by Gender/Sport

Revenues

Gonzaga $3,052,964

San Diego State $13,568,246"

So my figures from the DoE go to: $50 mill San Diego State, $29 mill Gonzaga. If we are gonna discuss full scale revenue then i guess we talk academic revenue too. But in that case, Public Universities always win over Private. The enrollment numbers just arent in the same universe.

So i am still confused how you ever get in top 5 revenue wise including P5.  In basketball, just off top of my head,  schools that i never see a mid major passing would be Arizona, MSU, Ohio State, UM, Kansas, Duke, NC, UCLA, Kentucky, Louisville.  But maybe taking a closer look at numbers and how revenue is specifically allocated to a particular sport it makes sense.

I was only referring to Basketball revenue in regards to top 5-10 in the country as i said originally. In regards to just basketball revenue, in 2016 we were at $12m, if we get the deal we are looking for on tourney shares and our TV $ grow, i think we can push that closer to $20m within the next 4-5 years. That would put us in striking distance for top 10 for sure.

Don't take any of my responses as anti Gonzaga.  I'm thrilled that you are considering joining the MWC.  But most every MWC school is unique in their own way and therefore provide strengths, both academically and athletically.  Many of us will get parochial right back at you if you bring that.

I believe there is strength in our partnership but we have to arrive at a win-win or it doesn't make sense for either of us.

We should rally around our common hatred of BYU! :)
