The name Nevada is derived from the Spanish word meaning "snow-capped", and the Spanish pronunciation of the word is nev-AH-da. However, if you talk to anyone from Nevada, they will vehemently insist that the only proper pronunciation is nev-AD-a.

It’s always been Nev-ah-dah to me.  But, I took Spanish classes in high school.
