A Timeline: Russia and President Trump

Recommended Posts

I came across this interactive timeline that connects a lot of dots, and provides other dots that could mean something, but also could not. I'm going to post some of the connections in here, but here's the link to the page if you're interested.

http://billmoyers.com/story/trump-russia-timeline/

1979

1980

1984

1987

  • The New South Wales Police Board issued a confidential report on whether Trump has the required, "sound repute, probity and integrity" for a new casino project in Sydney, Australia.
  • The report discourages working with Trump, notably bringing up Trump's alleged ties to the Mafia, as noted above.
  • The project was cancelled, as the New South Wales Cabinet Casino Subcommittee believed that a connection to Trump's consortium "would be dangerous." They also noted a conclusion from CIBC Australia, Ltd., a subsidiary of the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce, which stated: "The projected casino revenue estimates are not soundly based and the quantum of the potential overstatement is so material that [the proposal] is not financially viable." (emphasis mine)
  • Trump first visits Moscow to tour potential construction sites for a possible hotel. He later dismissed the possibility, saying, "In the Soviet Union, you don't own anything."
According to Luke Harding, foreign correspondent for The Guardian, the "top level of the Soviet diplomatic service arranged for the 1987 visit. With assistance from the KGB."
  • Trump issues a statement that he has "absolutely no plan to run for mayor, governor or United States senator." He does leave out any comment about the Presidency, and the next day he buys full-page in The New York Times, The Washington Post, and The Boston Globe stating his foreign policy opinions and noting a planned October 1987 trip to New Hampshire --- the site of the first presidential primary.

1988

1991

1996

1998

2000

  • Stone once again explore a potential Presidential run, with Stone serving as chairman of the exploratory committee.

2002

2004-2005

2005

  • Felix Sater, in a sworn deposition given in 2008, testified that Trump gave his Bayrock Group an exclusive deal to develop a Trump Tower project in Russia.
  • Paul Manafort proposes that he undertake a consulting assignment for Oleg Deripaska, an oligarch connected with Putin. Manafort suggested a strategy for influencing politics, business dealings and news coverage inside the United States, Europe, and former Soviet republics in order to benefit Putin's Russian government.

2006

2007

  • Manafort's consulting firm receives $455,000 from Ukrainian Prime Minister Viktor Yanukovyeh's Party of Regions. If you recall, Vasily Salygin was an official of the same Party of Regions, and also connected with Putin.
    • Manafort's firm was hired to improve the image of Putin-backed Yanukovych.
    • Manafort's firm received a $750,000 payment from the Party of Regions after Yanukovych won the 2010 Ukrainian Presidential election.
  • Jared Kushner purchase 666 Fifth Avenue, at the height of the real estate market bubble
    • The property promptly loves value. Kushner is still reportedly trying to assemble a financing package to convert the building to condos.
    • Trump and Sater celebrate the launch of Trump SoHo.
  • Trump praises Vladimir Putin in an interview with Larry King. He says, "Look at Putin --- what he's doing with Russia --- I mean, you know what's going on over there. I mean this guy has done --- whether you like him or don't like him --- he's doing a great job.
    • This would prove to not be the last time Trump would praise other despotic rulers
  • After an article in The New York Times is published about Felix Sater's criminal past, Trump was asked in a deposition about his interactions and involvement with Felix Sater. Despite having just celebrated the opening of Trump SoHo earlier in the year, he backtracks his previous extensive business involvement with Sater, stating, "Not that much, not very much... I would say that my interaction with Felix Sater was, you know, not --- was very little."

2008

  • Trump sells a Florida residence to Russian oligarch, Dmitry Rybolovlev for $95 million. It is considered to be the biggest single-family home sale in US history. Rybolovlev never lived in the home, and it has since been demolished.
    • Trump purchased the property at auction for $41 million, three years earlier --- during the beginning of the real estate bubble.
  • Donny Jr. tells a real estate conference: "In terms of high-end product influx into the US, Russians make up a pretty disproportionate cross-section of a lot of our assets; say in Dubai, and certainly with our project in SoHo and anywhere in New York. There's indeed a lot of money coming for new-builds and resale reflecting a trend in the Russian economy and, of course, the weak dollar versus the ruble."
    • As we all know, the Trump family and Trump himself have later claimed to have no involvement with Russia in any of their deals.
  • Trump sued Deutsche Bank, and serveral other banks after he is unable to obtain an extension of a deadline for a $640 million loan to build Trump Tower in Chicago.
  • He later receives a loan from Deutsche Bank's wealth management unit in order to pay off the debt that he owned the bank's real estate lending division. The wealth management unit later issued another loan for the Chicago project.

2010-2011

  • Felix Sater becomes "senior adviser to Donald Trump" according to his Trump Organization business card.
    • Remember, Trump said in a deposition that he had very little contact with a man who would apparetly later become his own senior adviser.
  • The Russian-Canadian developer of the financially troubled Trump International Hotel and Tower in Toronto received $850 million from the sale of his share in a Ukrainian steel mill.
    • This mill was purchased through five offshore companies, but the money ultimately came from Russia's state-owned bank, chaired by Vladimir Putin.
  • Trump once again downplays his involvement with Felix Sater during a different deposition regarding a Fort Lauderdale project. He claimed he only had "limited involvement" with the Bayrock Group, and only spoke with Sater "for a period of time".

2012-2013

  • Financial records filed in Cyprus in December 2015 showed that future Trump campaign chairman, and long time Trump associate, had incurred debts totaling as much as $17 million to pro-Russia interests.
  • Urged on by Roger Stone, Trump is once again considering a run for President. Stone steps in as a consultant for this exploration.
  • The Magnitsky Act is signed into law... freezing assets and banning visas for Russians who had a hand in the death of Magnitsy in 2009, and for other Russians involved in human-rights abuses. Putin is furious and retaliates by banning US adoptions of Russian children.
  • Paul Manafort meets with a senior member of a lobbying firm and a member of Congress who served on a subcommittee that has Ukraine in its purview. This member of congress is believed to be Dana Rohrabacher, as Manafort had a dinner that evening with Rohrabacher at the Capital Hill Club, and three days later, made a $1,000 contribution to his campaign.
  • Russians attempt to recruit Carter Page
  • Trump begins to contemplate a Presidential bid in 2016. Trump lawyer Michael Cohen confirms to the New York Post and CBS News that this was true, and that Trump had spent $1 million for researching this potential run.
  • Eric Trump brags about Russian funding for Trump projects while golfing with James Dodson. In Dodson's account, Eric admits that all of the investment in his golf courses comes from Russia
    • ‘What are you using to pay for these courses?’ And he just sort of tossed off that he had access to $100 million... So when I got in the cart with Eric, as we were setting off, I said, ‘Eric, who’s funding? I know no banks — because of the recession, the Great Recession — have touched a golf course. You know, no one’s funding any kind of golf construction. It’s dead in the water the last four or five years.’ And this is what he said. He said, ‘Well, we don’t rely on American banks. We have all the funding we need out of Russia.’ I said, ‘Really?’ And he said, ‘Oh, yeah. We’ve got some guys that really, really love golf, and they’re really invested in our programs. We just go there all the time.’
    • Eric Trump claimed in 2017 that the report was "categorically untrue" and "complete garbage"
  • Trump meets with Russian oligarch Aras Agalarov and his son in Las Vegas where the Trump-owned Miss USA pageant is being held. An agreement is made that in exchange for $10 million, Moscow will host the 2013 Miss Universe pageant.
  • Trump announces that the 2013 Miss Universe pageant will take place in Moscow. He then tweets the following: "Do you think Putin will be going to The Miss Universe Pageant in November in Moscow - if so, will he become my new best friend?"
  • Trump walks out of a BBC interview after being asked questions about Sater's prior connections to organized crime.
  • The Internet Research Agency, now known to be a troll factory intent on disrupting US elections, registers with the Russian Government.
  • US Attorney Preet Bharara files a civil forfeiture action against Prevezon Holdings and others. This action involves the $230 million tax evasion scheme Magnitsky had uncovered.
  • In an interview with Larry King, Trump once again praises Putin, saying that he has, "done a really great job of outsmarting our country."
  • On The Late Show with David Letterman, Trump is asked, "Have you had any dealings with the Russians?" Trump answers, "Well, I've done a lot of business with the Russians." Asked if he has met Vladimir Putin, Trump responds, "He's a tough guy. I met him once"
  • In a recurring theme, Trump now denies ever knowing Felix Sater in yet another deposition.
  • Trump arrives in Russia for the Miss Universe pageant and goes to dinner with more than a dozen Russian executives and business tycoons
  • A Russian reportedly accompanying Emin Agalrov offers to send five prostitutes to Trump's Ritz-Carlton hotel room. Trump's longtime bodyguard, Keith Schiller, rejects the offer.
    • Not getting into the Steele dossier stuff here
  • On Twitter, Trump states, "@AgalarovAras   I had a great weekend with you and your family. You have done a FANTASTIC job. TRUMP TOWER-MOSCOW is next. EMIN was WOW!"
  • Trump brags about relationships with Russian Oligarchs. "The Russian market is attracted to me." "I have a great relationship with many Russians, and almost all of the oligarchs were in the room."
  • Trump announces plans for a Moscow Skyscraper to be partially financed by Russian-majority state-owner Sberbank.

2014

  • During a Fox & Friends interview, Trump brags about being contacted by Putin. "When I went to Russia with the Miss Universe pageant, he contacted me and was so nice."
  • During CPAC 2014, Trump says: "You know, I was in Moscow a couple of months ago. I own the Miss Universe pageant and they treated me so great. Putin even sent me a present, a beautiful present.
    • Later that day, Obama signs an executive order imposing sanctions or Russia for it's annexation of Crimea.
  • The Internet Research Agency forms a department called the "translator project." Its stated purpose was to interfere with the US Political system, including the 2016 presidential election.
  • Trump praises Putin during a Fox News interview. When asked about Putin, Trump answers, "Well, he's done an amazing job of taking the mantle, and he's taken it away from the president [Obama] and you look at what he's doing --- so smart."
  • At a National Press Club luncheon, Trump says, "I own the Miss Universe [pageant] I was in Russia. I was in Moscow recently. And I spoke indirectly and directly with President Putin who could not have been nicer. And we had a tremendous success."
  • In an interview with The American Spectator, Trump says, "Well I heard that Putin was saying to somebody --- you know I had the Miss Universe contest over in Moscow recently, six months ago --- and Putin, by the way, treated us unbelieveably well. And it was at that time that Putin said, 'Who do they think they are saying they're exceptional?' And I understand that. You know..."
  • The Internet Research Agency travels throughout the US to gather intelligence for their interference operations.

2015

  • Trump launches his exploratory committee to run for President in 2016.
  • Dutch intelligence notifies US Intelligence about the Russian Hack of the DNC.
  • Trump announces his candidacy for President in 2016 on June 16th.
  • Russian twitter accounts begin to back Trump, while posing as Americans.
  • Trump, once again, boasts about his relationships with Russia and Putin.
    • In an interview, Sean Hannity asks Trump if he has had any contact with Vladimir Putin. Trump answers, “Yes,” and continues, “I was there two years ago. We had a tremendous success with the Miss Universe contest…. And I got to meet everybody.” When Hannity asks whether he spoke to Putin, Trump says, “I don’t want to say. But I got to meet all of the leaders. I got to meet all — I mean, everybody was there. It was a massive event. And let me tell you, it was tremendous. We can get along.”
  • In a recurring theme, this time at the City Club of Chicago, Trump touts his closeness with Russians.
  • Trump is asked about Russian sanctions during a town hall meeting in Las Vegas. His response is...
  • Trump once again praises Putin, this time on Hugh Hewitt's radio program.
    • “The oligarchs are under [Vladimir Putin’s] control, to a large extent. I mean, he can destroy them, and he has destroyed some of them... Two years ago, I was in Moscow... I was with the top-level people, both oligarchs and generals, and top-of-the-government people. I can’t go further than that, but I will tell you that I met the top people, and the relationship was extraordinary.”
  • Trump praises Putin, this time on 60 minutes. During a segment on 60 Minutes, Trump tweets the following:
    • "@Apipwhisperer: @MarkPavelich @gentlemanirish @60Minutes  EXCELLENT WATCHING PUTIN'S BRILLIANCE AND TRUMP'S. @CBS I LOVED THE INTERVIEWS."
  • Felix Sater emails Michael Cohen a letter of intent for Trump Tower Moscow. Trump counter-signs the letter of intent for Trump Tower Moscow a few days later.
    • For someone that Trump supposedly doesn't know, Sater seems to have an awful lot to do with Trump's business interests.
  • The GCHQ becomes aware of suspicious "interactions" between members of Trump's campaign and Russian intelligence operatives. Over the next six months, a number of western agencies from Germany, Estonia and Poland share more information on contacts between Trump’s inner circle and Russians.
  • The Agalarov's announce that they cancelled the plans for Trump Tower Moscow due to Trump's run for the presidency.
  • During a GOP Primary debate, Trump says:
    • “I got to know [Vladimir Putin] very well because we were both on 60 Minutes. We were stablemates, and we did very well that night.” Media coverage the next day noted that Trump would not have met Putin while filming 60 Minutes because the segments were shot on different continents.
  • The FBI again informs the DNC about Russian hacking, believing it to be a state-sponsored attack.
  • Dana Rohrabacher (remember him) posts in an op-ed to "Forget Putin" and that "our hand will be strengthened if we work with Putin now.
  • Trump again downplays his relationship with Sater. “Felix Sater — boy, I have to even think about it. I’m not that familiar with him.”

2016

  • In a reversal from the last three years, Trump downplays his relationship with Putin. “I have no relationship with [Vladimir Putin], other than he called me a genius.

I think we can leave it here, because the rest has been discussed at great length. What I'm struck by in all of this is the fact that Trump has spent the better part of almost four decades trying to get deals done in Russia. He's been connected with Russian oligarchs throughout all of that time. There were suspicious real estate dealings during this time. Felix Sater appears to be far more key to all of this than anyone else, given how badly Trump has tried to distance himself from him, despite so much evidence to the contrary. I'm also struck by how much Trump seems to admire Putin, and how that mirrors how he is admiring the leaders of both China and the Philippines.

Was there collusion that took place? I honestly don't know. I think that there is a lot of smoke, and I think that Trump is a shady businessman who can't seem to be able to tell the truth about nearly anything. I'm sure the cons here will trot out their Trump Derangement Syndrome shit after this, if you even bother looking at it. I didn't cover everything in the link I posted at the top of this either, but I recommend that if you're at all curious about any of this, that you give it a shot. It's super interactive and you can even granularly go down and look at items related to specific individuals.

Anyway, this was a nice diversion for me while I sit in on a presentation to a customer that I've sat through four times already for other customers.

All I can say is that based on all of this, it paints a pretty +++++ing damning picture. Beyond what I posted even... I left a lot out, and ignored the last few years, as well as Flynn and some of the later Manafort shit.

Jesus. No wonde mueller is taking so long.

I used to say that I can’t wait for the movie, but this shit needs like a 16-part Netflix docuseries to cover it all.

I can guarantee that we'll see at least a miniseries/documentary come out of this.

Like I said in my original post, a lot can probably be legitimately explained, but when you look at the sheer volume of Trump's alleged and proven ties to Russia and Russian interests, it begins to paint a pretty damning picture.

You also have to consider that Mueller is pursuing a number of avenues on this. I would be shocked if he weren't working with the NYAG to indict Trump and/or members of his family and organization on RICO charges.

I sincerely believe it will be determined through the investigation that release of the emails was coordinated between the Russkis, Wikileaks and Nacho Duce’s campaign. I’ll call it collusion.

You're memory is shit if you're now confusing me with @Cincy, who you spent years levying that accusation against. Or maybe your newest delusion is that he and I are the same person.

Where's this Trump hotel in Russia that apparently was started in 2007???  Maybe they built it and their hiding it?

Here's some other things Trump has said too.

2015 “I get along great with Mexico. I get along great,” he said. Trump went on to note: “Thousands of people have worked for me over the years from all the Latin countries.”

Trump also claimed that the Chinese respect him, citing as evidence that a Chinese company just extended its lease in a building he owns in New York.  (Trump is working with the Russians and the Chinese!)

"I love China."

"I beat the people from China. I win against China. You can win against China if you're smart. But our people don't have a clue."

"I know the Chinese. I've made a lot of money with the Chinese. I understand the Chinese mind,"

- this was from a speech  "I like China. I sell apartments for— I just sold an apartment for $15 million to somebody from China."
"I like China. I sell apartments for— I just sold an apartment for $15 million to somebody from China."

2017
He said of the Chinese president: “We have developed a friendship. I can see that. I think, long term, we are going to have a very, very great relationship and I look very much forward to it."

Trump- after meeting his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping in Mar-a-Lago. “We’ll be making a lot of additional progress. The relationship developed by President Xi and myself I think is outstanding.”

Trump has said many things like this about China and praising Xi.
Trump's dealings with Russia were primarily about setting up a hotel and other ventures there but nothing ever came of it, the Russians could have easily given Trump very favorable terms to build there but they didn't.   Manafort - that guy is just using whatever influence he can to make himself money.  He's a guy who was a friend of Trump and using that to his own benefit.

Oh,  and where's all the Russian collusion talk about Hillary?
Clinton foundation getting $ for allowing Russian uranium deal
Bill getting $500k for a Moscow speech! (imagine if that had been Trump)
Hillary saying on RTV  "Our goal is to help strengthen Russia"?
And it wasn't Trump who said to Putin "I'll have more flexibility after the election"

Probably because Hillary isn't the President and in a position of power over our government?
