I don't have a problem with this. Automatic weapons have been banned for a long time and a bump-stock changes a semi-automatic into an automatic.

However, in my opinion, this or any law won't satisfy gun-grabbers until we have a full-on ban on all firearms. No law restricting guns will end gun violence.

The vast majority of gun-related deaths are with pistols, which don't use bump stocks.

I believe that we need to address the inherent problem of violence, whether it be socio-economic or cultural. Chicago has strict gun laws. However some might say, "Well they can bring guns in from states with less gun laws."

That still doesn't address the fact that those states with less gun laws have less homicides than Chicago. Why do Chicagoans kill each other with guns given the opportunity, when places where gun ownership is higher don't have this problem? The answer to that question will help end gun violence, not further gun laws.

Chicago's problems wouldn't be solved by flooding the streets with guns.  Given what I've read about them, it wouldn't make any difference.  Why do conservatives constantly use Chicago as their choice de jour?  The gross number of gun related homicides?

I like it.  But how do you convince the vocal proponents whose position is that a wannabe criminal will just find another way to get a gun?   Like the ever popular Chicago scenario?

It’s a good step. Obviously, somebody could buy a gun off the street but I think closing the legal means for these people to get guns is a good step.  With these mass shootings, except a few like Vegas or Sandy Hook , there are signs and warnings people noticed before hand that could’ve prevented the murders.

Agree.  A definite step in the right direction.  Hope it catches on.

I mean, at what point does it turn in to a minority report situation?  There's signs people are about to crack, but what can you do?  Can you make a judge force them to treatment?  At some point they'll get out.  Wasn't the Vegas guy someone who didn't show much of anything?

I am just spitballing here.  I have no idea how to go about this.

Edit: I'm still reading the article

The NRA came out for more regulations against bump stocks back in October. https://home.nra.org/joint-statement

NRA used to help write gun control & safety laws back in the day - Think they even helped wit the Brady Bill in the 1980's & 90's - Doubt they'd sign on today to anything close to that

And even this small ask for gun control, the bump stocks, isn't going to happen.

House conservatives will squash anything that doesn't also have their concealed carry law. The law which would negate any and all state regulations on concealed carry which makes it DOA in the senate. For a group that claims to want more local and less federal oversight, they certainly have very selective notions.

One of the Final Five..........
