NBA eyeballs at Taco Bell Arena last night

Recommended Posts

Per the Statesman: There were 12 NBA teams represented at Wednesday’s game, including the general managers for the Atlanta Hawks and Indiana Pacers.

Players who likely improved their stock:
Caleb Martin - Exhibited elite athleticism on several drives into traffic and showed the ability to finish with authority. Caleb is not a great defender but his ability to create his own shot, run fast breaks and handle the ball in traffic will make him an intriguing prospect in the Association.

Kendall Stephens - His range is beyond NBA level. Went 6/8 from 3 pt land.  His future might not be in the NBA but his shooting ability will get him into training camps.

Players who's stock took a hit:

Chandler Hutchinson - Was unable to convert on two open looks in crunch time. Was bothered by the defense all night which resulted in a 4/14 effort and 0/3 from 3pt land. He showed good versatility though stuffing the stat sheet with 4 steals, 6 assists and 2 blocks. The knock on him not possessing NBA level shooting ability will be hard to shake with performances like last night against strong competition.

Jordan Caroline - Has really struggled from beyond the arc most of the year and those struggles continued against Boise. He has a great frame for the NBA despite lacking NBA height but it will be hard for him to secure a roster spot without  being an outside threat. The comparison to Draymond Green is really not accurate unless Caroline can figure out how to improve his range and consistent as a jump shooter.

Hutchinson will be drafted high despite last night. The guy is a serious talent. He might be the best MWC I’ve ever seen.

Didn't watch Kawhi Leonard much?

Hutch certainly didn't have his best game last night, but it seems that having an off night shooting and still recording a double-double with 6 asts, 4 stls, and 2 blocks would be a positive thing to scouts, no?

Like I mentioned he filled up the stat sheet despite shooting poorly and chocking in clutch moments which is a sign a really good player. But the thing with the NBA is that his future will be as a scorer, not a lock down defender, and it's really hard to envision him being a top 15 pick unless he can become a consistent outsider shooter. I love his game but his lack of shooting ability is a huge red flag.

HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA!

Kendall Stephens - His range is beyond NBA level. Went 6/8 from 3 pt land.  His future might not be in the NBA but his shooting ability will get him into training camps.   Everyone gets into a training camp.

Fixed it for you.

Blues must have watched a different game. Hutchinson is a great player but he had an off game because Martin and Hall defended so well. Hardly the best player on the floor. Stephens amazes me with his range. He made me forget about Marcus Marshall in a short time. I would have thought 100 made threes from someone that doesn't get the ball in his hands often would be near impossible. There are plenty of NBA guys on the end of the bench that have had a long career with the same skill set. He can also finish at the rim much better than I expected.

Hutchinson was being covered effectively by 3 guys when he had the ball.  One directly on him and 2 sagging into the middle to keep him from driving.  BSU was getting rebound after offensive rebound because Hutch was taking half your team to cover.   Yet he still filled up the stat sheet and was very efficient with the points he did score.

By far the best player on the floor.

Best player on the floor? Yes

Very efficient that night? Hell no.

He scored 13 points on 14 shots.   A point a shot is considered average efficiency and when it is taking 3 people to keep him from doing better and you give up 13 offensive rebounds because of it, that is pretty efficient.
