2014 Boise class, seven are gone and one is a non contributor. I do think Chase Blakey has a chance to contribute. Jabril Frazier has contributed, but he looks like the only one from that class. It feels like this will be the year he fills that potential, too.

Interesting very similar scenario for SDSU those two years. Just makes you wonder how  much stronger both programs will in the next few years with very good young talent on both.

Fresno 2014 class was a horrific disaster just looking back, jeez. Of 24 signees:

4 of the highest rated guys were kicked prematurely: LB Mike Lazarus (weed), LB Xavier Ulutu (weed), RB Kurt Scoby (left team after redshirting freshman year from a severe concussion, wanted to return but team voted against it lol), CB Corey Ferguson (PEDs)

10 guys left the team before their 4th year: TE Chad Olsen, WR Keyan Williams, QB Kilton Anderson, OL Ben Simonds, OL Bobby Johnson, CB Malcolm Washington, OL Jacob Hicks, OL Art Gomez, LB Chris Moliga

2 more players left program as redshirt seniors buried on depth chart: DE Kyle Hendrickson and S Deshawn Potts

Of the 8 who stayed all 4/5 years: 2 rotational guys in LB Justin Green and CB Stratton brown, 3 were or still are solid starters (OL Aaron Mitchell, TE Kyle Riddering, CB Tank Kelly), and 3 are or will end up in the NFL (WR Keesean Johnson, WR Jamire Jordan, DE Tobenna Okeke

This year, Boise is getting a lot of hype but the only question mark they have going into next season is at QB. 16 players in the 2 deep on defense were FR and SO last year. The starting lineup is still yet to be determined, but they'll likely return 8 on both sides of the ball with most of them being multi-year starters.

I think Phil Steele had both SDSU and Boise as two of the youngest teams in the country last year. Hopefully the MW can start getting multiple teams in the top-25 again.

Good God, that's depressing... what a dumpster fire. I remember how excited we were to get the first three that you mentioned.

i remember being super excited about flipping Ferguson from Cincinatti and then he literally got busted for PEDs in fall camp...at least that was what josh webb hinted at to me.

the 2015 class hardly panned out better, either. 11 of 20 guys are no longer on the team just three years later, including such luminaries as 4* WR LJ Reed, Chason Virgil, and all four of the 3* OL we signed that year, which is a big contributor to our atrocious OL depth and performance in 2016.     We got two good years out of juco Tyquwan Glass, who's now in Canada (the lone bright spot on awful teams), Jared Rice will probably end up in the NFL, Camacho will end up kicking in the CFL or NFL someday, and James Bailey and Mike Bell are all-conference type guys...and that's about it.

In 2003, Rivals ranked SDSU's class at #48. Coming off seasons of 3-8, 3-8 and 4-9, there's no rational way we should have had a class that good. Should have been closer to #96. Of course, with a couple exceptions it was all smoke and mirrors as a few of the most highly rated kids were JC transfers who everybody else knew couldn't possibly qualify academically, a few others were bad character guys who only Tom Craft among SDSU coaches would have taken a chance on and a couple others had had injury problems.

Bobby Hauck did a great job as STs coach at SDSU but if Montana is added to the MW, I can see him signing a class like that.

Boom goes the dynamite.

247 Ranking By Avg. Points Per Recruit

Boise 85.71

CSU 82.65

SDSU 82.33

UNLV 81.23

UNR 80.87

USU 80.79

SJSU 80.46

Hawaii 80.18

Fresno 79.92

Wyo 78.87

UNM 78.54

AF 77.31

Comments: The first three and the last three are pretty much where they've been for each signing period over the last three years. Of the latter three, that's fine for AF and Wyo since the kind of kid they recruit always differs from everybody else but for UNM, it's another bad omen. UNR has bumped it up a bit every since kicking to the curb the whiny kid with the hot dog in his mouth. Same for UNLV under the Sanchize. SJSU? I'm not sold. No Spartan recruits can be said to have a P5 offer and most have almost no other offers at all. The conclusion to be drawn is that although 247's recruiting experts think most have some talent, there has to be some problem like academics or injuries in their background. So good on Brennan & Co. for getting some kids to commit in the midst of the current disaster but a wait and see attitude seems appropriate.

Boom goes the dynamite.

this is just a weird year for fresno ratings-wise.  a lot of our primary (realistic) targets - players we've been in constant contact with since the early summer and bringing in on unofficials - have been guys in that lower 80-82 range* (Dixon, Bailey, Gomness despite him having at least one P5 offer, etc), over players that are a smidgen higher-rated that we could also be in on.  That and rivals had no idea our current commits existed so they're getting 2* 5.3 ratings which nuke the composite.

*with the obvious exception of jalen cropper who we're very clearly reserving a spot at WR for.
