The AAC has officially left us in the dust

Recommended Posts

How many years in a row now is this that our first or second best team is matched up against one of their middle of the pack teams in a bowl game?  They certainly aren't P6 but they certainly aren't even with us.

Why didn't you stay?

Could you of stayed if Boise wanted to stay?

They told you "NO Thanks" if Boise isn't apart of the deal.  Sorry to hear that.  What can you do to be an expansion candidate on your own merit?

Thats not what they told us.  After Boise backed out, we had to decide whether to return with Boise or stay with the Big East(AAC)

UCF vs Auburn in the Peach Bowl

Memphis vs Iowa State in the Liberty Bowl

USF vs Texas Tech in the Birmingham Bowl

Navy vs Virginia in the Military Bowl

Aresco should get a little credit for that impressive line-up.

No, both parties said this won't work.  Thanks for trying to change the subject though.

The AAC has had a few good years. As with any thread that wanders down the let's add/kick out/expand path, the answer is the same. College football is cyclical. USF, UCF, and Memphis aren't perrenial G5 powers....timing and time are the answers. They now have at least one coach to replace and who knows how many more in the next month, but that was a big reason why UCF and USF rose up.  If the MWC teams just keep chipping away, we'll be fine in the long run.

Why do people continually overreact? I agree that the AAC is top to bottom a better conference than the MW, and that their TV contract is marginally better, an may increase. Additionally, this year, their bowl line-up is excellent. However, last year, their bowl line-up was garbage. Last year, the MW was 2-2 against the AAC, and our sixth place team destroyed their Division Champ. Every time the AAC does something right, people here go nuts, and claim that "they have left us in the dust." It is cyclical.

Meh.  Our bowl tie ins suck.  But this is going to be a good conference next year.  We are better than we were last and should see an even bigger jump.  Fresno, SDSU and Boise all look like top 25 caliber teams going into next year with everything they return.

Two issues.

Geography and support of fans.   If all the MW fans would travel to fill the bowls then we could get better bowls despite our disadvantage of geography.

The problem is that a lot of the bowls the MW is tied into are on terrible dates and pretty much are in the week leading up to Christmas when it is very hard for people to get away.  Look no further than the Hawaii Bowl on Christmas Eve.  How many fans are free on Christmas Eve and can book tickets two weeks out?  If we had bowls after Christmas I think you'd see better attendance across the board.

You pine for Liberty Bowl. Lol, you dumb sumbitch. Should pine for something bigger.

big payout (2.4 million), no travel costs, national broadcast, historical bowl game, literal home field advantage...we've always wanted this and we got a Big XII opponent who beat Oklahoma and TCU.
