Portland @ Boise

Solid win and impressive job by Hutch today. JJ is absolutely killing it from 3 this year too--he might end up with more made 3's in OOC then he did all last year. Portland isn't great but they're not a bad team either--they've just played a pretty difficult D-1 schedule so far. Similar margin of victory today as North Carolina and Oklahoma had against them. We have Sac State coming up which should be another beat down then two good games to finish OOC in GCU at home and SMU on the road.

This is the best rebounding and defensive team Leon has had. They still turn the ball over too much.

The TO's are almost predictable given they tend to happen when the Broncos are rolling and whoever has the ball gets too excited.  Hutch has been a culprit there as much as anyone, trying to do too much early in games.     But the 2-3 zone...I'm in love.   We hired a supposed defensive specialist a few years ago (name escapes me, HS coach from Texas that isn't here anymore thankfully) and we ran the same tired man D with little shifts and support.    The D they're running now requires smarts, energy and communication and they're pulling it off in Nov-Dec.    This is how good teams are built.

Helps that both grad transfers are smart ballers.   Next year will be a stretch to see this level of D without Hutch and those 2.

Hobbs will have to step up and be the man.

Couldnt have asked for a better weekend. Win over Oregon, MWC title, and Hutch’s triple double.

Seriously?  Hobbs has a decent game with 9 points, no turnovers, 2 assists, on an "off game" and you're calling him out? I got nuttin else cuz you're clueless.

Read the post above mine. He’s mentions the tough transition next year losing Hutch and the transfers.

it sounded to me like he was responding to roughrider's post above his about when hutch and the other two are gone next year. i could be wrong, but i thought that's what he was referring to, and that hobbs would be the one taking over.

Leon said after the game that they had been wanting to play more zone but they just didn't have the personnel before this year. They really have it dialed in. I keep waiting for someone to expose it, because so far it has stifled everyone. Even Iowa State had to hit a lot of really tough shots. The defense was there.

I also really like that Leon has tightened the rotation. I have long wanted him to give more people playing time, but after the top two teams last year had a weak 7 man rotation, it looks like he is honed in on his 7 guys. I would like to see Jardine get more PT, but Hobbs and Dickinson make for two of the best bench players in the league. Hobbs should win 6th man of the year.

Hutch got it. 23, 10, and 10 with 6 minutes to play. He's the first Boise man to do that in 37 years.

We were tracking his stats in our section and cheered when he got the Triple Double.  The crowd around us did  not know why we were cheering even though I shouting TRIPLE DOUBLE.  The Arena Announcer never mentioned it.  We had one of our Lady Broncos get a Triple Doubler the week before....also the first in history for the Womens Programs.   Although they only kept those stat records since 1985, hence the 37 years quote.
