Northern Nevada Schools

Recommended Posts

Glad they did this.  One, it allows for a true state playoffs for all classes.  Two, it rearranges the two southern regions.  Now, Liberty and the rest of the former Sunrise Region teams will have to go through Gorman to get a regional title and a shot at a state title.  Something the Sunset region teams have had to deal with for over 10 years now.  This by far the best alignment they could have come up with at this time.  Would love to see a 15 team 5A made up of 10 southern teams and 5 northern teams.  Hope this is what they work on over the next few years.

No I read the first page, lol. Apparently the schools in the north don’t want to put in the effort that several of the public schools in Vegas have done to become competitive. But even Clark, who until last year (?, or two) was playing in 3A, beat Gorman in basketball last year. It can be done, but it would definitely be easier for the schools up north to drop down and beat up on the little schools. Good for them. Moapa has between 600-700 kids... but they didnt whine about beimg forced to compete with 4A schools, they just do what they can and look forward to playing against bigger schools. Amd they have won their share over the last few years.

Good point.  There's no reason Moapa can't compete with the biggest schools in LV.  They just have to try harder.  Gorman only has 1,400 students & yet they're a Nat'l power.

Why would the north break up a great 10 team setup to fix the south? This entire week as been about the south shuffling the chairs on the Gorman titanic. Northern Schools were given one option. Join the 5A as a block or don’t. It didn’t come to fruition so there’s no vote.

I’d prefer the north do this;  add Lassen and Bishop which as been discussed for years. Great 12 team league. When Hug goes bye-bye in a few years it will be replaced by Wildcreek HS and one of the two major weak links gets the support it needs to be successful.
