I originally hoped the MLS proposal and SDSU could reach common ground. That didn't happen obviously. Any approval process in San Diego will be long and difficult, but I think the SDSU West proposal will crush Soccer City at the ballot box. In the end, Soccer City was flat out private development. No doubt private capital will be involved with the west campus, but I think the citizenry will find the SDSU affiliation far more palatable. 3 Quote Thay Haif Said: Quhat Say Thay? I think he's the aerospace engineer who has been around the various SDSU boards since back in the Aztectalk days and is politically basically a libertarian. By that I mean the guy supports the military and police and fire but is otherwise fanatical about wanting "small government." That includes public universities. If he is that guy (and I don't expect him to ever come clean about himself), about a decade ago we once had a lengthy argument about taxpayer subsidization of higher education and IIRC, he advocated that tax money should go mainly just to the brick and mortar stuff with students picking up the rest via tuition similar to what is charged by private schools. I don't totally disagree since I don't think we should have entirely free higher education like advocated by Bernie Sanders. But all that means is I'm not a socialist because I sure as hell am not a libertarian. Quote Boom goes the dynamite.

Duh, duh, duh that was very much there. Sue me. I never used it. Not like it's been 30-33 years since I've been on campus or anything. The structure on the corner of E. Campus & Montezuma was put in when I was there. I'd say 1987 for that one. Then the one next to it I believe was put in when I graduated. I used to park in residential east on Montezuma. That big grass field was the area for overflow parking. I remember the Guitar Center at the end of Mont. on El Cajon Blvd. I used to go there a lot. Sometimes I also parked on the west side of campus at the end of Remington where you didn't need a residential parking permit.

I absolutely don't remember the small one on Linda Paseo. Looking at what's there now, wow. It looks like all those houses and apartments were leveled. Right there at the south edge of campus there were residential properties that were a party zone, big time. I know there were some big drug busts later on and I think the place was a pain for the school. The party thing was fun though. Sometimes I'd drink beer at Monty's at lunch and then go to class. I think it was the Pikes that got the death penalty for a party rape and other consistent problems like that. And I think that was the start of the school thinking about going dry. They were really starting to press the issue of having dry rushes, too. But the school went dry after I left. The TKE's were right across the street from the Pikes on College just south of Mont. Whatever frat got booted, I do believe it was the Pikes, were right across the street from the TKE's. I had a friend in the TKE's and I'd go to their parties. I remember the surfer dude frat was Lambda Chi on the corner of Mont. and Campanile. All the chick sororities were further east on Mont. from College. MWC Tex
So....it going to be a race with the voters. Soccer City only needsva simple majority since no tax dollars are involved while SDSU will need 2/3rds since taxpayer money will be used. Guess we know who has the big advantage with the taxpaying voters.
