Why isn't San Diego State in the Pac 12?

Recommended Posts

Your enrollment is 33,000 plus, your TV market is Huge and you are good at Football and Basketball, money making sports.

Whats the story there? Stuck up Pac 12 schools refusing to allow it?

To me and alot of people outside of California, it's a mystery why SDSU is in the MWC.

I look at SDSU like Good Will Hunting. Someday we gonna knock on that door and ya just won't be there anymore.

The Pac 12 has the San Diego TV market already, they don’t need another mouth to feed in Southern California.

Nothing to gain

Let's see here. Their teams have historically ranged between mediocre and bad, they are located in a market that the PAC-12 already controls, they are far inferior academically to any PAC-12 school, they have a far smaller endowment and athletic budget than any PAC-12 school, and they may not even have a stadium in a couple years. But other than that, they'd be a great candidate for the PAC-12. :P

No they don't.

The Pac 12 owns a portion of the San Diego Market.  SDSU owns the Market.

And if the Aztecs were in the Pac 12 they would own even more of the San Diego Market.

They own the market for the whole west coast.

But they don't Warbow.  The Pac 12 does not own the majority of the San Diego Market and the Pac 12 does not own the majority of the Valley Market of Fresno/Bakersfied.

They have a "portion" of both... but not a majority of either.

Yup. I think that black patch is SDSU.

Imagine Southern CA is an asss. Now imagine there are different types of fat cells in this asss, and each type represents the fans of a particular school. So this asss might have it's cell ratio as 40% UCLA, 40% USC, 10% SDSU and 10% Other. Now when a school does well, it feeds and brings life to it's type of fat cells and they get bigger.

Now there's nothing that a TV executive likes more than a big huge fat asss. But this So. CA asss will always have a different size depending on the year. Whoever is making that asss bigger for that year owns the market for that year.

If UCLA and USC are having down years while SDSU is up, SDSU can take credit for owning that asss for the year. It might not be a huge fat ass, but it's still SDSU that owns that ass for that year and will continue to do so until school performances shift again. But obviously UCLA and USC have a huge advantage because of the number of fat cells they own.

Yes, it's possible to convert fat cells, and even have cells disappear. But in this case of the So. CA asss. It would be tough to do enough
