Seems like that's the whole point of having our political system.

Okay ... seems as if the majority don't want socialized healthcare or it would have happened by now.

Hopefully we all have ideas that do not align with the majority's opinion. Otherwise we are not thinking at all. There is no logical argument to be made that we should not want things that are not universally popular or that we should simply accept things that we don't agree with without trying to affect change.

Let's put it this way: If you don't like the tax rate here, why not move to Kuwait? If you don't like foreign wars, you should move to Switzerland. Does that make sense?

Yes.

This is a ludicrous take, especially for a libertarian.

How so? To the contrary of socialists, Libertarians don't want to force their morals or legislative policies on anyone through empowering the state to fine, imprison, or murder non compliers.

The majority in both the U.S. and the UK wants the government to be able to do all those things in certain circumstances. So, if you don't like it you better move to Somalia.

Not a bad idea. Better weather, lower taxes, less Subarus.

And for what it's worth, I willingly pay taxes and gladly support a safety net for those who are unable to provide for themselves. If those programs ever swing too far on the authoritarian pendulum however, I support trimming them back.

I thought you were not allowed to do that. If the majority says so, you either leave or shut up if you disagree.

Where did I say "shut up?" I said willingly move if you can't stand the laws and mores of the country you currently reside in. I never said you can't voice an opinion or vote for policy change.

What's the point of voicing your opinion? If the majority wanted it it would have happened by now.

Because voicing opinion contributes to the overall pool of ideas and intellectual discussion, even if wrong. I've NEVER said expression or opinions should be squashed.

But if your reaction to somebody voicing their opinion is to tell them to leave the country, how is that contributing to the pool of ideas?

I didn't TELL anyone to leave. I merely suggested it if someone felt so oppressed. There's a difference.

You sure they are saying they are oppressed? Or are you misinterpreting a want for single payer as somehow a cry of oppression?

Kuwait is more or less a totalitarian, socialist country.

Yeah, but the taxes are almost nonexistent. So if you want to lower taxes you should move there.

When I hear Liawatha and jackmormon cry about all the people Republicans want to die, it sounds as if they're claiming oppression. Anyway, I'm off to dinner. Adios.

Why? That's kind of a fallacious argument. If I get to hating taxes too bad (and I'm getting there), totalitarianism, and socialism, I'd just move to Lebanon. Not some desert shithole welfare state.

Of course it's a fallacious argument. That is exactly my point.
