7'1" C Kameron Rooks to SDSU

Recommended Posts

He will fit in well.  Another big with no offensive game.  Maybe Dutcher will open it up a little bit and get the offense going.  The good news is that he's already 58 years old, so he won't be around very long.

That is exactly what SDSU needed. Not the shot blocker you would think for someone that size.

No star for sure but we needed a big body in the middle and assuming he can stay healthy he'll be an upgrade on Valentine Izundu whose entire game on offense was dunking the ball - and no, I'm not exaggerating.

They have plenty of scoring. They needed some size down low. That's a good pick up.

Boise is on a back up PG transfer. Same kinda thing, not a game changer, but an important addition.

Aztecs don't have plenty of scoring. They play defense. Maybe a guy this size can help in that capacity. If he can block some shots and get some rebounds, he'll fit in fine.

Can't wait to see him miss baby shots at the rim like the rest of that team.

They have Hemsley, Kell, Pope, Watson, and even Hoetzel. That have more scoring than they usually have and more returning/transferring than most in the conference have. The new guy doesn't look like a shot blocker but he'll be a big busy in the middle and get rebounds.

None of those guys are scorers. They are pretty good athletes, but they can't score. If those guys could score, SUDS might have been good.

San Diego State will not shoot better than 44% from the floor or 35% from three.

Watson averaged 20 points as a Freshman.

We're all waiting for the Aztecs to be able to score (insert mom joke here). Maybe this is the year.

I like this pick up for more reasons than one.

First off Rooks fits this team well.  He doesn't have to have the ball all the time...He plays D...He has solid fundamentals.

2nd we needed a big body in the middle for 20/25 minutes a game whether he has NBA skills or not.  Rooks fits that.

We can now use Narain at back up (until Narain becomes a key cog with this team, which I believe he will).  Pope can swing to center in certain situations.

This gives us a big front line with Rooks at 7ft, Pope at 6-10, and Hoetzel at 6-8.

Dutcher told his staff to look into offensive systems.  He knows that was Fisher's shortcoming.  All D with little O limited how far we could have gone.
