Lobo Amor
Joe Dooley coach at Florida Gulf Coast name is being tossed around as the next possible coach at UNM. He was a former assistant under Fran Fraschilla. He was also an assistant under Bill Self at Kansas. He does have other H C experience when coached at ECU back in the 90's. His base salary right now is 275K which makes him very affordable.
Guest Cowboy Junky
He's a good coach. He was an assistant under Steve McClain and was considered for the Wyoming job 10 years ago.

Lobo Amor
Dooley has stated interest in the UNM opening but according to local sportswriter Gammar, Lobo's AD has had 6 coaches contact him about the job. So this could be very interesting...

Despite the bizarre self-loathing of some of our fan-base, under normal circumstances, UNM is about as good a transitional job as you can get in college basketball. Sort of the middle point between being the coach of a top 50 program or not. The wildcard is the financial situation of the university. The job is appealing, but the pay might not be.

Yeah but the good thing is we can offer pay with incentives, as attendance goes up so does pay. Lobo basketball is dying for a winner, the fans will be back.

Swoll Cracker
If Dooley gets hired and doesnt do well, will we need a "Fire Doodles" thread in a few years?

Yes... that's exactly what you'll see here. Lobo fans are very demanding, while also wanting the most of a coach for the least amount of money. If the new coach doesn't have us anywhere near a post season birth, his arse will get extremely warm in a very short time here in NM. UNM fans want instant results! I think the coach will likely get a pass from the fans next year. Probably also depends on how many players transfer out. A core group of Logwood, Kuiper, Jefferson, MacDougall, Harris, Adams, Hunter, and Furstinger plus whatever recruits the new coach brings in should be fairly competitive in the conference.
BacksThePack
Dooley told Fazekas to go f**k off on live tv, hire away. We need another notch or two to the rivalry.

Good luck with that. Seriously, if that's the attitude towards coaches' pay, I'm afraid UNM Basketball's best days are behind them... Not really, how long did we give noodles? He went backwards every year from year one instead of showing improvement.
Lobo Amor
Krebs interviewed Dooley today, a decision will be made on who our new coach will be by the end of the week. Romar and Gottfried have expressed interest in the position, no interviews have been up yet.

I like him because he was a perennial NCAA tournament team in the Pac 12. Recently his success dipped, but it was because he changed his recruiting philosophy and started targeting 5 star kids instead of 3/4 star kids. UNM needs someone that knows how to get to the dance and win in the dance. I think Romar would do that.

Are there no more out there like him?
