An interesting read on the state of journalism today in the US and how we got here

Recommended Posts

I suspect discussion on this blog post will divide on predictable lines, but hope that it will instead lead to an honest conversation (are those even possible anymore?) about what constitutes journalism, science, believable fact checking and many other items touched on in the post. There are dozens of links to articles supporting the author's contentions that I've not yet read, but suspect are worthy of inclusion in this discussion.

Good read.  People are more concerned about having their opinions validated than anything else.

You even see it in sports.  If poster X says player or coach X sucks, they care more about being right then their team succeeding and will actively root against said player or coach, even if they do not admit it.

I do have a problem with his claim that Clinton won all the counties with the most economic production.  Just because Monsanto's corporate headquarters is in St Louis doesn't mean all its economic activity derives from there.  Same with thousands of companies like American Tower, Halliburton, Exxon, Caterpillar and unnumbered others.   You cannot assign their economic activity to a county where their headquarters is located, those graphs are stupid.

I do agree with most of the rest of his conclusions.  Although he fails to apply the same standards to the democrats that he holds republicans too.  They are twins and that is just a factor of him supporting his tribe.
