At least RIce allowed you to be rivals.com champions of the pre-season for back to back to back years.

Neal is Rice sans Findlay Prep.

LOL. We were perennial offseason champions of the world.

Now only imagine you have a couple of top 50 guys with a top 10 guy and finish 7th in the MWC 2 years in a row.

UNM ain't even on our level of hurt yet, lol.

It's basketball Karma for me posting about Rebel fans wearing all black, listening to My Chemical Romance, and cutting themselves by conference game 5 under CDR's tenure.

Basketball Gods are the cruelest of all Gods.

It needs to happen. Fire Noodles!!

At the end of the season if it doesn't go well for you guys. Mid season firings are stupid unless there was a violation/scandal or NCAA sanctions coming down the pike.

Second, you don't have TKM running the search so you'll be ok.

It's a good time to start this thread.  Especially, on the one year anniversary of the rice canning.

Careful what you wish for.  See Unlv hoops / Fresno St football as two perfect examples.  Both firings have devastated the programs.

You don't magically get immediately better after firing someone.

Especially when your whole roster bails.

How does one compare Fresno State football and 5 years of Deruyter to UNLV basketball halfway through year 1?

Menzies had to put a roster together full of unknown freshmen, JC kids and a couple average 5th yr transfers.

Has a .500 record even after playing Duke, Kansas and Oregon. Wins vs Wyoming and at UNM.

The comparisons don't make sense. UNLV basketball knows where it can be. Where it should be. Nobody who wanted Rice fired thought things would immediately be better. This is a 5 year culture project.

Why stick with a coach when you know he can't meet expectations. Loses the fan base. Slowly kills the program? (Rice) (Noodles)

You get that cancer the +++++ out the program and try to get someone that can do the job you want...even if it means taking a step back in results for a couple years.

UNM has the support, tradition and makeup to be a good basketball program and perennial MWC contender.

With SDSU being slugs and the overall conference being a dud....UNM should be favorites with Brown and Williams at the helm.

This 100%.  While Noodles deserves to go for the betterment of the league, UNM is nowhere near in the same boat as UNLV was for the past 3 years.

Definitely. Pickles, er Noodles, is neither as good a recruiter nor as bad a game day coach as Rice was.

He SHOULD be fired, however.

That's what I've been trying to tell Lobos fans, that think firing him now will 'magically' fix things. Firing Neal now puts who in charge... Krebs would have to select an interim coach from the following three... Who do you want as your interim coach Lobos fans?

Chris Harriman Associate Head Coach
Alan Huss Assistant Coach
Terrence Rencher Assistant Coach

Seems like hiring long time assistants never goes well.. Not always, but most of the time. Curious to see how SDSU does when Fisher retires.

Fox worked well. Carter didn't. Petersen worked well, will Harsin? Hiring is a tough deal.

Well dang, I'm listening to Geoff grammar right now, he said Neal's buyout is $1,000,000 until the final year, and his contract runs till 2020. Ouch. He also said unm doesn't have a president right now, and the AD may not be quick to pull the trigger, since it would be his second firing of one of his hires. Doesn't sound good.

But UNM pays him lots of money! Big time!

I have it on pretty good authority that the HC in waiting thing was given to Dutcher not just to keep him in the fold but to dissuade from leaving other assistant coaches who are and have been highly thought of on Montezuma Mesa.

Note the plural, I'm not referring only to Marvin Menzies as one of those who left or might consider doing so. Steve Fisher's success isn't solely because of his huge ability as a game day coach. (Recall the 80+ consecutive wins with a lead at the 5 minute mark.) Fish's success is also greatly a result of having had some excellent assistants who have been regularly courted by other schools.

Boom goes the dynamite.
