Wyoming hires new Defensive Coordinator

Anyone know what system the two of them ran at NDST? Polian was married to the Tampa 2 so that could be a reason Hazelton's season at Nevada was meh.

Bohl runs a Tampa 2 as well. I have heard it said that he runs a bit of a modified version of it so it is a bit different(I'm not enough of a football mind to know the differences). Hazelton was with Bohl when they created the defense at NDSU so there is great familiarity there.

And Wyoming went 2-10 in Bohl's second season and Pokes went last in points to first.  Judging any coach on 1 or even 2 years is useless.
Of course Wyoming couldn't afford to go after any talented high school coaches out there or someone like that....

Hazelton is from Colorado and went to school there.  So he knows the area which will help in recruiting.  He is also the one that primarily installed the defense at ND State, they went from 3-8 to 9-5 his first year as DC and won the FCS Championship his 2nd year.  This is an outstanding hire.  I just hope we can keep him here for at least 3 years.

I am glad you are so optimistic.

It was Bohl's judgement to bring in the guy he just fired as well.  I hope it works out but this is far from a sure thing hire.

Yeah, but a lot is different here.  Bohl has worked with Hazelton before and had great success with him.  Hazelton worked with Kiffen at USC and followed him to Jacksonville and was part of a defensive team of coaches that significantly turned that defense around.   I do agree, it's not a sure thing.  Simply my opinion that it was a good hire for us.  I said this last week when his name came up.

Well, he looks like a Viking Warlord so, that pretty much spells doom for the rest of you pansies and your Revlon model looking little b$@# a$$ DCs.

Ultimately, Bohl could have brought in an inanimate object and still cut through your little weiner offenses like a scythe next year.

Probably better you just submit now, put your iron collars on, and get to foraging with the other captives.

Go Pokes!

I know!  I can't believe Bohl didn't bring in Wade Phillips 2 years ago!

Last year it wouldn't have mattered who Wyoming's DC was.   But I will give Stanard some credit, except for the UNLV game, usually when the offense was doing well, the defense would step up enough to win.  The Boise and first SDSU game, and the CSU game showed that.  But its not the type of defense Bohl wants, he wants his defense to be much stronger than that, which I'm sure most coaches want.  But was pretty evident to me that Pokes defense this year relied as much on emotion and momentum as they did skill and talent.

I like this hire. Hazelton is stepping into a pretty good situation. Yes, Wyoming's defense has been abysmal since DC ran it into the ground. Hazelton has a lot of room to improve. In addition, he has tools to get it done with two freshmen All-Americans in Wingard and Logan. He has the best pass rusher in the league in Granderson. He will have a full rotation of capable defensive tackles.

The Tampa 2 shines if you can generate pressure with a four man rush. He'll be able to do that next year with the personnel he has returning.

I think Hazelton is going to make Nevada fans say, "Why the hell didn't he do that in Reno?"

I don't know what part of it you think is a joke.

Granderson is going to be a nightmare at 260. Kevin Prosser can get to the quarterback as well. Shiloh Windsor will be a good defensive end. Our new signee from Sacramento can track down a qb. We'll have pass rushing weapons at defensive end.

We have defensive tackles that can generate rush now with Ghaifan, Sidney, and Cain. We haven't done a bad job recruiting defensive tackles from Sacramento either. We'll have a couple more bodies in the defensive tackle rotation next year and the depth on the defensive line that Wyoming has been lacking.

Wyoming will generate a pass rush without having to blitz as much next season. Write that down.

With more depth on defense and the year four of Craig Bohl's recruiting cycle, Hazelton is walking into a really good situation.

We have a lot of linebacker talent redshirting this season. Hazelton will be the linebackers coach as well as the defensive coordinator. Wyoming will have Craig Bohl recruited seniors next season.

The last time Hazelton and Craig Bohl coached together, they won a national championship.

Here comes the Cole Train....

Here comes the Cowboy fan sock puppet that likes to bitch about Wyoming pretending to be a CSU fan.

You don't even have the nuts to post as your Wyoming handle.

Scottie Hazelton. Spent last three years coaching linebackers for the Jacksonville Jaguars. Coached under Bohl for five seasons at North Dakota State, last two as DC and linebackers coach. Also spent one year as linebackers coach at USC and one year in Reno as DC in Polian's first year.

Hazelton hired as UW DC

Sorry but violation of the rules!!! All threads about the Cowboys MUST be started by CJ!!!

/s/ God

It all was a joke.  That's what makes you so funny.  Keep it up man.  I need the laugh every now and then.

I'll file that one next to my pre-season prediction that Wyoming's defense would score points, that NFL execs would be drooling over Josh Allen, or the predictions that we would lose to EMU, and UNLV.

My predicting power was terribad this year. ;)

Your predictions with defensive lines is especially bad.  Just a few short years ago you proclaimed that Wyoming had the best defensive line in the conference and Yarbrough was the best defensive lineman in the conference.  Ganderson isn't anywhere close to being the best pass rusher in the conference.

You confused the defensive lines ace. I predicted that Biezuns, Unrein, Givens, and Fletcher was the best, not Yarborough or any of that crap that DC fielded. Yarborough was good though.

This is the defensive line I said was the best in the league.

Try Again.
