Nevada lands best juco player in the nation

Nevada lands 2017 PowerForward shawntrez davis

He’s going into this year probably as the best junior-college frontcourt player in the country,” McCann said. “I know Nevada’s coaches are really excited but I don’t think they quite understand that they’re getting a guy who will be a top three or four junior-college player in the nation this season.”

Davis, who will have two years of eligibility at Nevada starting in 2017-18, picked the Wolf Pack over offers from Texas Tech, Memphis, Marquette and Saint Louis. Arizona, Oregon and North Carolina State were recently showing interest, too, but Davis decided to commit to Nevada during his visit this weekend.

At 6'9  230 his videos shows him to be a quick and athletic scorer. Outstanding get. He has definitely improved since this.

From ESPN on Davis coming out of high school..

Strengths:
Davis is a very long and athletic forward that is very mobile. He is a quick leaper and well. He second jump may be quicker than his first. He is a rebounding machine on both ends of the floor in and out of his area. Davis rebounds with a combination of length and worry strength. He runs the floor with ease and can finish on the break in addition to drop off passes created by dribble penetration. Davis is a also an excellent shot blocker with good timing and ability to come the court.

Weaknesses:
Davis must work to develop his skills. He needs a post move and counter move from both low blocks and then extend his game to the perimeter shooting and ball handling wise. He will also have to add strength and be a consistent performer.

Bottom Line:
Davis is a terrific rebounder, shot blocker and finisher but work to develop his scoring package. He needs to develop his scoring inside and out in addition to his ball skills to take his game to an elite level in which he is very capable. Davis is already a very good player but has not scratched the surface on how good he good could be.

That's awesome. But it's football time, could he have helped our defense in the Cal-Poly game? Cause we needed it.

Well done, this is a really good pickup.

Time for the NCAA to start sniffing around Reno.

That's something like the 9th 4-star player Muss has landed since arriving. When you assemble a great team, it makes it easier to get other guys a lot of the time.

That dude has had mega P5 offers.

Texas Tech is a dump.  Any decent program can steal somebody away from texas Tech.

I guess the opposite is true when it comes to stealing basketball coaches.  LMAO.

Just the fact that he is visiting is big. Muss working miracles.

Five-star prospect Jordan Brown, a 6-11 power forward and the No. 5 recruit in the 2018 class, is on an unofficial visit at Nevada today.

It's only because of Musselman.  Nevada has no name appeal.

Seriously, who writes this crap, this word goo?  Glad you got a long, athletic basketball player though. I find them to be much more effective than a... errrr... not long, Dorito eating couch potato who walks with a limp.
