But it’s the first game of the college football, so darn it, I’m going to make one. And while I might not possess the discipline to stay away, I do maintain the principle of not laying three touchdowns with a mediocre-at-best team. There’s so little looking up with the LAG — Life After (Jared) Goff — Golden Bears that coach Sonny Dykes tried to escape Berkeley, Calif. this offseason before reluctantly staying put. Cal can’t stop anyone, and while its offense should remain productive, it will no longer roll at the level that overcomes such defensive deficiencies. Hawaii is no doubt in an even worse place, but it might put on an inspired effort in the season opener. New coach Nick Rolovich will have the Warriors ready to play. Yes, the Warriors have a brutal travel schedule but that plays absolutely no role here. In fact, they’ve traveled less than the Golden Bears.
