The Resistance: Turbo 1

theresistance.png

The Resistance is a game of secret identities, deduction and deception. Turbo Games may take upwards of a few hours, and are played with 5 to 10 players.

SOME GROUND RULES:

  • no editing of posts for whatever reason.
  • no quoting of PM's recEIVed from the Game Moderator (GM).
  • no discussion of the game anywhere other thAn this thread.

GAMEPLAY

  • The GM will post storyline, instructional, and clarifying posts in BLUE FONT.
  • Any questions for the GM should be sent via PM or asked in the Game Thread using ORANGE FONT.

START:
At the start of the game, the Game Moderator (GM) randomly selects a small group of government spies (SPIES) to infiltrate the rest of the group (RESISTANCE). The SPIES are made aware of each other without the RESISTANCE knowing (the Resistance will know how many Spies exist, not who they are). Players may never reveal their identity to other players. There are NO PRIVATE CHATS in this game.

One player (either a spy or Resistance fighter) is randomly selected to be the first Mission Leader by the GM. Mission Leader order will be determined randomly and be posted in the game thread prior to the start of the game.

MISSION ASSIGNMENT:
The Mission Leader selects a predetermined number of players to send out on a mission (the Leader may elect to go out on the mission himself/herself). All players then discuss the Leader's choice and VOTE (via PM to the GM) on whether to APPROVE or REJECT the team make-up. After receiving all votes, the GM reveals the voting results and who voted which way. If a majority of players vote to reject the proposal or it's a tie, the proposal dies and the next Mission Leader (selected from a random predetermined list) then proposes a new mission. This continues until a majority of players agrees on a mission assignment. The Spies automatically win the game if there are five successive rejected mission proposals.

MISSION DEPLOYMENT:
Once a Mission Team is agreed on, the players then carry out the mission. Players selected for the Mission will PM the GM either a SUCCESS or a FAIL order. Members of the Resistance must submit a SUCCESS order. Spies have the option to submit either a Mission Success or Mission Fail. After receiving orders from all of the Mission Team members, the GM reveals the Mission’s outcome to the players. If all orders came is as a SUCCESS, the Resistance earns one point. If even one order came is as a Mission FAIL, the Spies have sabotaged the mission and earn one point (except for games where Mission 4 requires 2 FAIL orders for the Mission to fail).

VICTORY CONDITIONS:
The first side to reach 3 points wins.

TIMETABLE & DEADLINES
Looking at 15-20 minute deliberation sessions for proposing Mission teams followed by 15-20 minute deliberation sessions to discuss the proposals. For example: Game starts at 8pm, (15 minutes to discuss) Proposal made by 8:15pm deadline, if approved then players have until approximately 8:30pm to discuss whether to VOTE to APPROVE or REJECT the Proposal. If approved, players (Spies) have 15 minutes to decide whether to make Mission a SUCCESS or FAIL with announcement made in thread at 8:45pm. We can adjust/speed-up timetable as game flow permits.

START
In a year in the not-so-distance future, the United States has become a broken nation under President Trump. A small group of resistance fighters rises up and attempts to overthrow the corrupt government. The Resistance has launched a series of bold and daring missions to bring the government to its knees. Unfortunately, spies have infiltrated the Resistance ranks, ready to sabotage their carefully crafted plans. Even a single spy can take down a Resistance mission. Choose your teams carefully or forever lose your freedom.

Will the Resistance be able to root out the dastardly spies in time?
