UNLV recruiting

Recommended Posts

Shakur Juiston has UNLV in his final eight.  He has Kansas in there as well.  I saw this in an article from Zagsblog.  I clicked on it to see who he had on his list because Menzies is so tight lipped about that I thought we could possibly be on it, and I was right.

That's how it is with Menzies. Unless it comes from the player, it's tough to get any info on who he is recruiting.

I think we stand a good chance.  Kansas is recruiting him, but they have Billy Preston coming in next year.  They also have Mitch Lightfoot and Carlton Bragg.  He wouldn't be more than a role player there.

me personally from the eye test this season I dont see much future in Poyser and UNLV needs an upgrade there,Poyser looked totally lost, his motor was low,his decision making was sloppy,he took bad shots and forced the issue and by the MWC play and the end of the season he looked disinterested in even being out there,I hope he transfers out,I still think Troy Baxter has potential to be a much better player and I hope he stays,UNLV so far has recruits G Jay Green,SF Tervell Beck who is a solid player 6 ft 7' 230,SF Anthony Smith is still a little raw as far as a shooter from outside but he has a high motor, super athletic and can run the court and jump out of the gym then the 6'11 Center/PF Chiekh Mbacke Diong is a tough rebounder, shotblocker and finisher around the rim, athletic and next year PG Jordan Johnson is almost a lock to lead the MWC in assists,Dwayne Morgan coming back healthy will be a big boost,Dembele should progress more on his inside game and rebounding by then,Kris Clyburn should still be back and play more of a 6th man role but he needs to get a little stronger and hit the weightroom,Jovan Mooring will slide over to more of a SG role and back-up point, then combo Guard Zion Morgan will be a nice program player and carve out his role plus I Iike his defense,as far as Coupet & Georgie I think they transfer out,the recruits left who who could be in line to come to UNLV is PG Jordan Goldwire is a true pass first PG,great defender and solid leadership plus his catch & shoot release from 3 is fairly smooth,SF Lamine Diane is a player I really like and I think his upside and potential is big time,he would be a huge get for Menzies,of course everyone knows about C Brandon McCoy he is straight up a beast and a future NBA talent, the other player who has jumped on the scene is JUCO SF/PF Shakur Juiston solid rebounder, can score it inside out and shotblocker, the MVP of the Jayhawk league and even Kansas has offered him but UNLV was one of the first to give him an offer,I really like this Shakur a tough player from the New Jersey areas, there are a couple others who are linked to UNLV like the big wide-bodied Center Louis Bangai 6'10 250 and this guy can really power it up inside and a scrappy rebounder who is confident in his skills as a post player, then the high leaper PF built like a poor mans Blake Griffin Kwintin Williams has some athletic upside/size but Im not sure how interested he is now and not much news about him lately and the SG from SoCal Devante Doutrive is one of the better unsigned players left from the Cali regions and described as a relentless competitor, but things should heat up here in the next few weeks to see how this roster rebuild will shape out for 2017 but things are heading in the right direction and by 2018's class UNLV will have a nice grip on recruiting and be able to get this team back rolling smooth and keep building for stability, the revolving door of players leaving at UNLV will soon be over, that is the most Important thing is to bring in 3-4 year program players and hope to land a few 4-Stars once in awhile and maybe even a One & Done here and there but mostly build for the long haul with players who stay and find great chemistry playing together

plus dont count out Menzies and his Staff's ability to recruit International players either for the future,a lot of high level mid-major programs are starting to go that route like Australian players ( St Mary's had 7 or 8 ) and others, the talent overseas is rising and so is the popularity of the game of basketball in those other regions,to stay on top of the game I expect UNLV to pursue every avenue in recruiting

Would love that. Think Mbacke Diong would red shirt?

I hope so, if not bye bye Troy Baxter most likely.

If you’re such a UNLV fan, why did you go elsewhere?

Fwiw...

UNLV with a crystal ball pick for Brandon McCoy by one of the best in the business Andrew Slater, interesting.

He's coming to UNLV.  Known that for months now. Huge pickup.  Hopefully, we get MJ Walker as well.  However, it seems as those it's a race between Georgia Tech and Florida State.

I almost wouldn't be surprised if dembele ended up red shirting, had the situation not been so dire last year he would have then. It would give him a chance to not only catch up, but to bulk up as well.

That would be an interesting concept. He has developed a great bit though, so I wonder how beneficial having him out of game action would be. I don't want it to be a detriment.

If he's going to sit, he might as well transfer to a decent team.

:D

Have fun now! Cause you know we'll be back to whipping you before long, lol.

And btw, I don't think he would redshirt, it just wouldn't surprise me if he did.

I dunno if Diong redshirts. If he wanted to sit a year he'd be at Louisville. Pretty sure Pitino probably even pushed him our way.

The more I hear and read about the kid the more I think he's going to be one of the better players at UNLV next season. He's an absolute athletic freak man.

All is well, For Rice is gone.
