UNLV recruiting

Even though Bennett was a bust, he showed that unlv can send lotto players to the nba. McCoy will factor that as well

When UNLV is in the PAC-12, we will be landing top five recruiting classes annually.

With the new AD and facilities being built. We should be in a P5 conference within 5 years.

NEW YORK – Brandon McCoy, the 6-foot-11 power forward from Cathedral Catholic (CA) High School, came up on the losing end in Friday night’s Jordan Brand Classic at Barclays Center, but played well in defeat.

McCoy went for 15 points and 13 rebounds as the East lost to the West, 124-116.

Looking ahead, he plans to decide on a college in the coming weeks.

“For sure, I’m going to make my decision by the end of this month,” he told ZAGSBLOG. “But right now I’m just cherishing these moments with these guys here.”

McCoy is considering San Diego State, UNLV, Oregon, Michigan State, and Arizona and broke down his thoughts on all five after the game.

San Diego State: “They just got a new coach [Brian Dutcher] and I’ve been playing with the team in open gyms a lot and I’ve really enjoyed playing with those kids.”

Michigan State: “Great program, coach [Tom] Izzo is a Hall of Fame coach and Miles Bridges is staying so everybody’s been haggling me about staying with him and winning a national championship along with Jaren Jackson. It is really big possibility. Miles is a great player, Jaren’s a great player and they’re going to have a lot of players coming back that are really good so maybe I can do something to contribute to winning a national championship for Lansing.”

Arizona: “My boy ‘D’ [DeAndre Ayton] going there and that’s my bro. We played together in the EYBL and coach [Sean] Miller and them been recruiting me since the eighth grade so that’s one thing about that.”

Oregon: “Coach [Dana] Altman made it to the first Final Four in 78 years to that’s pretty epic. My brother [Dwayne Benjamin] went there and they’re producing a lot of good players, Tyler Dorsey, Jordan Bell. The development is there.”

UNLV: “Coach Marvin Menzies is a great dude, a great coach. He produces some NBA players. That’s what nobody really knows about it, but he did produce some NBA players and it’s becoming a program. If I go there maybe I can bring them back to the real Runnin’ Rebels, back in the ’90s when they were the No. 1 team in the nation.”

As for a timetable, he added, “For sure by the end of April.”

Anyone else liking this vibe as much as me? Almost like he's trying to convince everyone beforehand the reason why he would choose UNLV...

His Michigan State quote was kinda telling. I feel like he knows mins won't be as big as they would be elsewhere.

I think this is Oregon vs UNLV...and Menzies will win this battle.

All is well, For Rice is gone.

That's basically what all the insiders think - UNLV vs Oregon.

On a smaller scale, Pasadena guard Bryce Hamilton was just offered by UC Santa Barbara.  He has an offer from UNLV too.

Rivals lists him as a 4*, 247 Sports and ESPN 3*

Joe Pasternack will learn quickly that he won't get four and five star players at Santa Barbara.

The beach, guaranteed playing time, new coach.  Someone will bite.

Pasternack isn't targeting the 5 star one-and-done's that the blue bloods gobble up.  His focus is on getting the 3 and 4 star guys.

 Hamilton fits the mold.

When he's recruiting against MW and PAC-12 schools, he will have little to sell.  If he's going against San Diego State, he has nothing to sell.

If Rick Stansbury can land 4 and 5 star players at Western Kentucky...

Pasternack can sell to recruits that his current program has produced two NBA players this decade.  He can sell immediate playing time and getting to the NBA vs just sitting on the bench.  And the beach location can sell itself.

Sometimes new blood is all you need.

If I was a HS recruit and I got an offer from UCSB and a bunch of other similar caliber teams, I'd at least consider going there given it's location. Pasternak can probably build something decent there dwon the line but their team was a complete mess last year.

If you’re such a UNLV fan, why did you go elsewhere?

Goddamn, Iowa State fans are salty again. They are crying and whining since it appears that they lost out on Juiston to unlv.

My crystal ball says Juiston, McCoy, and a guard end up at unlv. Not that it should surprise anyone following their recruiting.

UCSB is a terrific campus, very beautiful and always great weather. Similar to Pepperdine, although I have to say the women there at UCSB are much better. Also, Kobe holds his camp there in the summer time so the facilities aren't bad.

Like UNLV, They just need to start winning again and the fans will turn the gym into a hostile environment.

Menzies will get UNLV back on track.  I believe Pasternack can do the same for us.  The players he's targeting are rated higher than what most folks are used to.

So we'll rub elbows occasionally with UNLV, Utah or whomever for the 3* and 4* recruits.  There's bound to be one available.

I'm sure we backed up the Brinks truck full of cash, hookers and blow just like we did for Vaughn.
