UNM recruiting

Recommended Posts

UNM picked up two commitments today from Texas: CB Corey Hightower, and WR Jay Griffin.

Griffin is a 3 star WR according to 247.  Griffin is a burner and will also run on UNM's track team.
He had offers from Utah, UCF and Kansas

Hightower is a 3 star and was a "major target" of Pac-12 Utah

Already starting to see positive effects in recruiting from this year's season.

Pretty good pickup today,  Daevon Vigilant RB Downey CA . Three star acros the board, reprted offers from a slew of schools including Mich, Colo, Utah, Wash, Wazzu, Nev, SDSU, SJSU and Wyo. Looks to be an athlete in the Carlos Wiggins mode.

That is a huge pick-up for UNM. What is that? 5 three star recruits?

Yep, that's five 3 star kids.

Hightower

Griffin

Vigilant

Emmanuel Harris

Avery Jordan

Kameron Miller (pretty sure UNM is recruiting his as a safety) is rated as a 3 star by ESPN.

I think they might also get the big OT Hermanns from Rio Rancho to commit (he recently de-committed from Iowa St.) Another 3 star kid.

Amazing how your team can recruit better when it isn't terrible.

OK guys time to join the party. Lobos pick up commitments from:

3* athlete Rhashaun Epting will play DE/OLB

3* safety Patrick Peeks  (flip from FSU)

2* DT-QB Tevaka Tuioti

2* top JuCo punter Cody Bojorquez

2* Emmanuel Joseph SDE

3* Kameron Pickett RB

Lobos are at 19 commits with one silent. One more to go. I am very excited about this recruiting class as Lobos have rebuilt and reloaded their offensive line. We restocked our stable of RBs, added some speedsters at WR,  and upgraded talent in the secondary. Future is looking bright in New Mexico. Lobos have nine 3* commits so far now just hoping all sign on NSD. Woof! Woof! Woof!

Big news!  Teton Saltes a 3* DE from Albuquerque has committed to UNM! He turned down the likes of Oregon, Stanford, Washington and Baylor to name a few to stay home and be part of what coach Davie is building here. Wow just to think we were 3-33 not that long ago to having half our recruiting g class 3*s!

Just checked 247.

According to them UNM is up to 7 three star recruits not counting the latest one Lobo Amor posted above my posts. So far we are at 17 recruits, 8 of them are three star. UNM moved up the rankings to 9 tailing Fresno St who dropped a notch.

Overall, Davie is doing a fantastic job of getting quality talent to this program. I our future sure looks bright.

Scratch Kameron Pickett he decided to commit to buffalo.

Kameron Smith is a 3* OT, he has not been rated by 247 yet he was given 3* by rivals who does not hand them out to just anybody. So we are still at nine 3*. There is still one commit that we don't know who it is yet. Tomorrow is going to be an interesting day.

So two commits decided to go the Jr college route and coach Davie replaced them with 3* Najhe Flowers DE and 3* Jonathan Brys TE. Lobos finish with 11 3* signees  almost double of last year. I cannot remember having a double digit 3* class for UNM. Things are looking up in Lobo land! !Arriba Nuevo Mexico!

And the nice thing is that from a roster standpoint, he can red-shirt the vast majority of them. UNM went O-line heavy signed a couple of gigantic kids that can spend an entire season or two just getting stronger and more mature before they ever step on the field. We haven't had that luxury since Rocky left.

UNM picks up commitment from Kentrail Moran a 3/4 star recruit depending on which recruiting site you look at. He decommitted from Illinois and had at least eight P5 offers including Michigan and Wisconsin. He is the top recruit out if Illinois and a huge get for the Lobos.

UNM has now jumped to #4 in recruiting in the MWC. The Lobo rushing attack just got that much more scarier.

Supposedly he has qualifying/academic issues, but if he is eligible he's definitely a big get for Davie (especially this late in the game).

I think it's Lacovangelo. Didn't seem to be all that heavily recruited. Big Juco kid 6'7 350 with 3 years of eligibility. Should be in the mix right away, but if he's not ready, he can still have a year to develop.

He adds to the size and girth that we have recently signed. Looks like we are preparing to face P5's down the road.
