Jaylen Fisher/Kobi Simmons

Recommended Posts

Interesting bit from Jerry Meyer. Fisher announced he is deciding on Wednesday followed by some crystal ball selections for UNLV. Meyer seems to be under the impression that both Simmons and Fisher could end up at UNLV. Interesting.

I can't see both coming.  That would put us at five commits, and we still need to add a big man.

I'd be fairly content with either one, but I really hope they both don't commit. We are going to need at least 1 more big for the 2016 class, so taking commits from both would mean we would need a class of 6 players. That is a lot of new faces, again, for UNLV.

Yea I understand that. It's as if Rice expects a lot of people to leave the way he recruits sometimes. I think Carlos Johnson was recruited as a big though. Rice has talked about the way Golden State plays and he could be trying to duplicate that idea. Small ball.

From what I have seen of Carlos Johnson, his style of play and his physicality would make him a better fit at the 4 than the 3, it is just that he is undersized. I think he is like 6'4" or 6'5" and that is pretty small for a D-1 power forward. Hopefully he can make up for it by being a beast in the paint. Maybe something like a poor man's Stanley Johnson.

I'm also not sure what to expect out of Bellot-Green. I think he is bit taller than Johnson, I want to say something like 6'6", and has a similar build, but from the JC stats I have found on him he didn't appear to rebound all that well and seems to take a very high percentage of his shots from 3. If he is a good shooter, which he appears to be, that may not be a big deal, but I am a little concerned that he might be prone to hanging around the three point line rather than fighting for rebounds. Hopefully I'm wrong and he turns out to be at least a serviceable rebounder.

Kobi Simmons looks like he will be waiting on De'Aaron Fox.

the kid wants to go to kentuky in the worst way, and i cant blame him.  the good news for kobi is he is good enough that schools will wait on him so he can wait out fox's decision.  i do believe CDR made the right choice in taking Fisher's commitment now then put all his eggs in kobi's recruitment.

Probably not, but we'll see.  Personally, I'd rather see Sedee Keita added.  He's similar to Christian Wood except for the fact that he has a strong motor.

I'd also take Keita over Simmons. He just fits more of what we need to round out the class.

According to Adam Finkelstein, Kobi Simmons did not meet with Arizona as was planned yesterday. He does, however, meet with UNLV today. It's an intriguing piece of news. IMHO they need to convince him that he would be the point guard and not the combo guard with Jaylen Fisher playing alongside him. I believe he doesn't like the idea of sharing. This development is interesting though.

Hmmmm. I really hope we are not walking into another Katin/Ernie type situation. Katin's dad spent all season in Rice's ear telling him Katin needed time at PG and Rice ended up giving Katin WAY more leash than he deserved, which in turn ended up being a huge point of contention among the team. Kobi is obviously a talented kid, but if he chooses UNLV I hope he does so hoping to compete for time at whatever spot he can and not thinking something is going to be gift wrapped for him. Also, I hope this would cause Christian Vital to reconsider his commit so that we don't have 3 PG commits in one class.

Based on the what Christian Vital has said, he's got that tough-minded NYC mentality.
