UNLV recruiting

Per Ray Brewer on commitment of Doug Brumfield.

UNLV gets QB commit for 2020 from J Serra in Cali. And it’s a good one: Kid also has offers from Kansas and Utah. He’s a pro-style QB who is 6-5 and 210 pounds. Room to add bulk. Great get. Depth at position, finally #unlvfb

With TS on the hot seat It's hard to get excited about kids like this.  More than likely they transfer after Tony is fired.  That being said I'm ok with Tony getting fired.

What has coach Sanchez been telling recruits:

“I’ve invested the last five years of my life making this a quality place, and regardless of what happens, you should still come to UNLV.”

The "lame duck" UNLV staff just got two more commits, and for now has the #3 ranked recruiting class in the MWC...

It's been a big week for UNLV recruiting, with four commits in four days.

Today the Rebels went from 6th to 4th in the MWC ranking with the commits of DE/LB Leshaun Bell and RB Dylan Downing.  Bell's offers included 8 MWC schools and 3 PAC-10 schools.  Downing had offers from many MAC teams as well as Washington St and Tulane.

There are 15 players on campus this weekend for official visits, so by the end of the weekend the Rebels could move up a few more spots.

I wasn't too thrilled with the Arroyo hire, but so far its looking pretty good off the field, he's got some impressive recruits showing interest in UNLV. Now lets hope he can coach.

Bell had offers from almost every other MW team as well as Arizona St. and Washington St.

Two more commits late afternoon today, TCU DL transfer Adam Plant Jr. (who had already been counted in the rankings) and JUCO LB Princeton Lollar Jr.  This makes 6 commits since Wednesday.

The guys on campus this weekend that will cause some raised eyebrows if they commit:

  • TE Alex Lines out of Phoenix area - has offers from every P5 conference except SEC (but BYU and BSU are considered the leaders to get him)
  • JUCO LB Danthony Jones (took official visits to Boise St and Houston last month)
  • CB Edric Whitley out of Austin, TX area (had only FCS offers when UNLV offered him earlier this month, but the following day both Miami and Ole Miss offered him... he has visits scheduled to Miami next weekend and Ole Miss the final weekend)

Two more commits in the last few minutes - so far six for today, 8 since Wednesday:

TE Jake Ray - had offers from SEC (Mizzou), Big12 (Kansas) and ACC (NC State and Boston College)

https://247sports.com/player/jake-ray-46080656/

JUCO DB Jeremiah Houston (who had been in the '19 recruiting class for UNLV but returned to JUCO for academic reasons)

The addition of Ray moves UNLV past Fresno into 3rd in the MWC rankings.  Houston has not been counted since he is still listed on 247Sports as class of 2019.

Still hoping for any of the three above to commit, but even better UNLV just landed a four star recruit.  Scott is a LB out of Texas.

https://247sports.com/player/brennon-scott-46042133/

29 of his offers are from P5 schools, including LSU, USC, Auburn, Florida, Georgia, Oregon, Oklahoma, Mich St, Texas, and Texas A&M

Wow! When was the last time we landed a 4 star recruit out of high school?

TCU transfer QB Justin Rogers - the highest rated QB in the transfer portal - is now enrolled at UNLV.  He is the highest rated player of the modern era (post 2000) to attend UNLV.  https://247sports.com/Player/Justin-Rogers-83404/

Rogers comes with questions though.  He was badly injured his senior year of high school and he says he's recovered but the staff at TCU didn't agree.  Rogers was left off the travel squad for two of TCU's Big 12 games and he entered the portal at the end of October.

Arroyo recruited him at Oregon and that helped develop this recruitment.  There already had been 6 QBs on UNLV's projected roster, so we'll see if this makes 7 or if there is going to be attrition at the position.

Both of the transfers UNLV has added this winter come from TCU (the first was DE and Las Vegan Adam Plant Jr returning home https://247sports.com/Player/Adam-Plant-89698/ )
