Guest #1Stunner
I don't think the school has money for many things, but they will pay salary for the right people. I didn't get hired when they were as broke as they are now, but they have never really been flush. Education is always done on the cheap in Nevada. That said, I got them to match an offer I had from another school that was 10k more than they wanted to pay for my position. I didn't get a particularly low ball offer from them, but I did have a better one from someone else. I just think that most coaches will be put off by what they figure is a low ball offer when you see a program that is the focus of the university's athletic department and is among the top attendance and revenue programs west of the Mississippi. The athletic department is only broke because they have to supplement football to such a high level. Thanks for sharing. I guess you get what you pay for, on a lot of levels----educations, and athletics. Time for the State of Nevada to invest in UNLV more. Rebelbacker
We were paying Kruger 1mm per year. I don't know why some of you think 500k is our limit.
lobo-tomy
You guys better pick it up if you wanna make 10 pages by midnight Not sure we're going to get our money's worth tonight so I only used the 100 calorie bag of pop corn. I think there is a bit of soul searching and grief going on in the UNLV fan base. Stage one and two sort of seemed to get lumped together, denial and anger. Bargaining has been pretty light, but I know I have seen some of that as well, such as hire an experienced assistant, i.e. someone who knows what they are doing. So I imagine there are a number of fans in the bargaining stage tonight. Also think there is some depression as well. both due to the loss and alcohol is ultimately a depressant. Not sure what acceptance will look like. God help us if it is like RR and R18. Quote Out of my mind for the Lobos!!
Rebels18
We were paying Kruger 1mm per year. I don't know why some of you think 500k is our limit. Kruger was getting $1.1 million per year in tougher economic years than now. The $500,000 cap is just wishful thinking by those who like to see UNLV down and out. Especially fans of basketball program with 1/10th the prestige of UNLV (hello BYU basketball) Again, UNLV Admin tried to go bargain hunting route and failed. The next coach will get a $1 million and up salary. Mark my words.

Rebels18
See. This is a decent honest post. I believe this and know UNLV can do it. Hopefully it works out. UNLV basketball is the golden goose of UNLV Athletics. -It completely supplements football, Title9 sports, baseball, etc. It's one of the top-20 most profitable programs in the country based on ticket sales, alcohol sales, merch, luxury box, etc. Look at our season ticket prices and then go look at SDSU or BYUs. It's not even close. Attendance at games is declining drastically. 12,500 paid, but more like 9,000 actual butts in seats. Walk-up ticket sales will decline further, and if a coaching change that isn't proactive (you have to convince UNLV fans--who are fickle) season ticket sales will drop next season--A healthy UNLV averages 15,300 and we will be nowhere near that number as long as Rice is here. That's lost revenue UNLV drastically needs that will spur a coaching change sooner rather than later. Again, UNLV tried to save money with Rice who offered to coach for cheap and may end up losing millions if he's retained. It's time to pony up $1 million and get someone good. LACASEY
I think I have this Dave Rice lousy coach / great recruiter think all figured out. He can't coach, it's all clear in front of you and his players run the floor without any understanding of the game just like him. But how he recruts all those highly rated guys, what is his secret? He signs those not very smart 4/5 stars, that has to be it, the intelligent one (Reinhard, Moser et al) figured this out very fast and are gone. Rice's Ball will never work in here, UNLV must make a change asap.

Rosegreen
If the boosters and donors can get some scratch together, they CAN bring in a name hire. Rebaholic
The writing has been on the wall a long time. Programs don't have mass exodus transfers in such a short window like UNLV for something not to be majorly wrong. Shame that so many chose to carry out their agenda by badmouthing players and coaches after they left the program, when its pretty evident the problem came from within. Especially the 'insiders', but not surprising I guess since these are the same people that were exposed by Youmans as delusional blowhards. I am sure Moser, Katin and Hutson are thanking their lucky stars they got out when they did. I really thought Rice would be back no matter what next season, but things sure seem to be unraveling much quicker than expected. He desperately needs someone to start make something happen to turn the season around ala how Herring saved the football team's season and Hauck's job. mundyc3
After being at last night's game, for the first time I agree to fire Dave Rice. Only problem is we need a coach that would keep Morgan, Goodluck, and get us Vaughn. Who can do both for us, get our high level recruits and coach well? Only problem is we need a coach that would keep Morgan, Goodluck, and get us Vaughn. Who can do both for us, get our high level recruits and coach well? Maybe Rebel18 is right? He has been right most of the time. Maybe Theus should have his day. While working for Louisville Pitino called him a tireless recruiter. I was doing some reading up about him and what he did at NMSU looks really good. Tied for the 5th best turn around of a basketball program in Division 1. Second year took them to the NCAA Tourney. Yeah, I also read about some of the player problems but, hell we've had a few here at home ourselves. And, for those that I've heard say "we don't need those kind of problems" how do you like the problems we have with riceball?
SharkTanked
After being at last night's game, for the first time I agree to fire Dave Rice. Only problem is we need a coach that would keep Morgan, Goodluck, and get us Vaughn. Who can do both for us, get our high level recruits and coach well? I'd be more concerned about keeping the players we have than recruits who haven't played for us. If there is a new coach, he will likely have his recruits. As for me, it is clear that Rice is not getting it done. I figured he'd at least have a somewhat respectable year this year, but this is beyond horrible. It's much worse than I had predicted. I hope he voluntarily steps down, but would be surprised if he does.

RR may have a price, but it would never include that. RR 2.0 might be throwing rose petals at CDR's feet, but RR is like the North Star on this. Paid for by the committee to elect RR. LACASEY
Perhaps the word I used INTELLIGENT is little strong, what I meant is players that understood early on that they can't learn anything under Rice and it is better to jump of the sinking ship while they still can. If this season turns into a total melt down as it looks so far there will be defections among the new recruits just wait.
