Yellow Evan
I'm doing my part for sure tonight. So am I. We're short a few posters tonight in all though. Guest #1Stunner
Dude. You do it to WYO fans too. Or are you really that dumb and believe that UNLV fans have ADD from the casinos? Things obviously go over your head, don't they. You need to learn to distinguish the humor portions from the non-humor portions. You are upset that I made a joke about "ADD from the casinos"? LOL! You really think that I think UNLV fans have ADD? LOL! Let me just say it so you'll follow.... UNLV fans want HIGH SCORING. OFFENSE. RUNNING. (most UNLV want this, and not grind it out ball). Yellow Evan
I don't know how much of a pipe dream Karl would be. He really wanted the job when it went to Kruger and he was the other finalist. But for how much money? Quote 7 hours ago, ph90702 said: If you’re such a UNLV fan, why did you go elsewhere?
masterfrog
He was joking probs. He recruited Vegas heavily at NAU. Also learned from Ben Howland. It was a bit of a joke, but the guy was a big winner at Bishop Gorman and is one of the best player development coaches I have seen. His teams always developed good shooters and were normally towards the top of the rankings in shooting percentage. So, he was a guy who knows how to win in Vegas. PLLobo
Bump, I want to see if this thing has legs. 50 pages or bust.
masterfrog
But for how much money? I think for somebody with an impressive resume, the money will be there. I would rank Karl's resume as impressive even if there is no collegiate experience on it.

Guest #1Stunner
Here it is. I'm quoting myself here. "Some possible non-CDR/RT candidates: Marvin Menzies -at NMSU Russel Turner- at UCI George KArl- longtime NBA coach, but a bit of a pipe dream Tim Cluess- at Iona All sans maybe Karl are cheap." Now, that I think about cross out Cluess, he's an East Coaster. Some more names: Weber State coach Randy Rhale Montana coach Wayne Tinkle St. Mary's coach Randy Bennett (NCAA red flag though) LBSU coach Dan Monson. I don't necessarily want all these coaches, and a few may not be a good fit. Now this is a realistic list. Well done! I think UNLV fans need to look at the recent history (hiring of Dave Rice, and the numerous statements to the media about UNLV financial problems) and accept that fact that UNLV won't be spending $1M plus on a new hire. Expect about $500K, which means you won't get a huge name. Maybe this will change, but right now it isn't the case. Of your list, I like NMSU's coach. Sorry for not recognizing it Andy Kaufman.
Yellow Evan
Of your list, I like NMSU's coach. He use to be an assistant at UNLV BTW during the Kruger era. I was mostly looking at mid-major coaches that play semi-up-tempo and are young. Quote 7 hours ago, ph90702 said: If you’re such a UNLV fan, why did you go elsewhere? Sorry for not recognizing it Andy Kaufman. Thanks! I'm glad you are starting to get this! I will be your friend now. Rebels18 and RebelRobert at the clear "KINGS OF THE UNLV FANS" on here. They are the most respected UNLV posters. I listen to what they say. I was a Rice supporter for UNLV, but they persuaded me otherwise, and now I actually think Theus would be a good hire. Yellow Evan
What about Ben Howland, that guy's mentor? Could UNLV hire him on the cheap? Would UNLV want him as a coach? After what happened to him the CA recruiting circles in 2011, no. We rely on S Cal a bit for recruits. Quote 7 hours ago, ph90702 said: If you’re such a UNLV fan, why did you go elsewhere? masterfrog
What about Ben Howland, that guy's mentor? Could UNLV hire him on the cheap? Would UNLV want him as a coach? I don't think anybody with a name would be cheap. It would be hard for a coach to understand why a university would low ball him when they have 15,000 in the stands every night. Yellow Evan
From your list I would give Monson a shot. We'd play very few home games with his scheduling. It would be hard for a coach to understand why a university would low ball him when they have 15,000 in the stands every night. From your "UNLV employee" perspective, is it fair to say that you also think that UNLV is basically broke, and will only spend about $500k on a new hire coach? (not saying they wouldn't give a proven winner more money, like they did with Kruger). UNLV sells 15k every night, but for some reason, the athletic department seems broke. It makes little sense. I don't think the school has money for many things, but they will pay salary for the right people. I didn't get hired when they were as broke as they are now, but they have never really been flush. Education is always done on the cheap in Nevada. That said, I got them to match an offer I had from another school that was 10k more than they wanted to pay for my position. I didn't get a particularly low ball offer from them, but I did have a better one from someone else. I just think that most coaches will be put off by what they figure is a low ball offer when you see a program that is the focus of the university's athletic department and is among the top attendance and revenue programs west of the Mississippi. The athletic department is only broke because they have to supplement football to such a high level.
