what is the future of mwc

I think the MWC gets torn apart in the quest for superconferences. Some of us will move up to big boy money, and some will become FCS. I hope I'm wrong as I don't think my school started taking the whole facility, attendance race seriously in time to find ourselves among the lucky.

If I'm wrong about the future of the conference, and expansion is what the crystal ball holds, I want UTSA. I don't think it's any sort of a crapshoot from a support standpoint, i.e. butts in seats and TV sets. I do think they are showing themselves to be aggressive enough that they will build a successful program in pretty short order. We don't need them next year, but we should be proactive in letting them know they can move up from the WAC when the time is right.

I'll just say this, San Jose St and UTEP will never gain MWC admitance. The MW conferences primary goal right now is obtaining AQ status. They are not going to invite anyone who doesn't help that cause.

To Each his own. UTEP dominates their Market- and with them and UNM- thats a very strong Southwestern Presence. Money & Advertising Dollars run everything- if UTEP/SJSU can bring that- they will always be potential candidates.

Steve, I would love for this to happen, it'd be awesome for our school... but forgive me if I don't hold my breath.

Nothing is 100% and of course in this case as I said it is in the very early stages. Lets put it this way. If 100 other admins had told me about it, I would have just brushed it off a hear say.

Hate to break it to you, bro, but the Aztecs being a "logical" choice is more of the Aztecs being the "only" choice. SoCal has USC & UCLA. The PAC twins. The Big XII isn't going to poach any PAC teams anytime in the near future. The only SoCal team left is San Diego State which plays in the best non-AQ conference. With the B12's AQ status, they figure it'd be easier to hand an offer to a non-AQ rather than trying to convince a pair of PAC teams to join the conference.

"Logical" or "Only" bro. San Diego State is the choice and there have been talks.

You misunderstood, Steve. Weber hinted at SDSU to the Big 12 last January at the meeting at which the MWC let USU know they weren't wanted. However, even assuming Weber wasn't blowing smoke up the media's collective butts and was actually passing along something he heard, he very likely got his info from Schemmel, a proven BS artist.

Weber may have got his info from Schemmel, but that doesn't change that there have been minor talks over the last 6 months.

I didn't get my info from Weber or Schemmel and that is what intrigues me the most.

It's hard to imagine San Diego St as being a part of anything associated with the word "Big" as part of their name. Okay, maybe the "Big West" or "Big Sky" but that's about it.
