Bronco7454 Posted March 1 Author Share Posted March 1 As of Feb. 27th - prior to games scheduled for this weekend - Boise State is 4th in the country in team batting average (.387) and Boise State's center fielder, Sophia Knight, leads all of the NCAA players with a batting average of .617. Sophia Knight also leads the country in hits with 37 hits in the first 15 games. The 2nd best in the country in hits has 31 hits in 18 games. Boise State is also 4th in the nation in team hits with 164 hits in the first 15 games. # 1 is Florida with 194 hits in 20 games (5 more games than Boise State). Bronco7454 Posted March 6 Author Share Posted March 6 Boise State's first home softball game of the 2025 season is tonight - scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. MT - against Idaho State. Some interesting things to make note of for this game tonight are the fact that 2 of the Idaho State softball coaches are former Boise State coaches or former Boise State players - that being Idaho State's head softball coach Andrew Rich and Idaho State's Assistant Coach Kelsey Broadus. Former Boise State player Rebekah Cervantes was an assistant coach for Idaho State thru the 2023 season but is now an Athletic Academic Advisor at Idaho State. Also of note is the fact that the Idaho State pitcher who has the best E.R.A. and their best Win/Loss record is former Boise State pitcher Kasey Aguinaga. Aguinaga is 7-1 so far this season and has an impressive E.R.A. of 2.33 in 27 innings pitched (the latter is tops for Idaho State so far this season). In 2023 and 2024 Aguinaga appeared in 19 games for Boise State with 3 starts and she had 17 strikeouts in 25 2/3 innings. IF I were a betting man I'd bet Aguinaga will be Idaho State's starting pitcher today. P.S. Idaho State's softball team is currently 14-4 so far this season and their losses are a 2-3 loss to St. Mary's, a 3-4 loss to U.N.L.V., a 2-4 loss to U.N.L.V. and a 4-1 loss to # 5 ranked Texas A & M. That being the game scheduled for 3:30 p.m. today (Friday) vs. Loyola Marymount. Don't know the reason why it was cancelled but the second scheduled game - also against Loyola Marymount - at 6 p.m. has NOT been cancelled. For those who don't know what the OPS is in baseball and softball it is the On Base % plus the Slugging % combined. There is another non-starter whose OPS is 2.000 but she has had only 4 at bats this season. That being FR OF Ashley Hernandez. The 8 starters I'm referring to here have at least 28 at bats (so far): POS - YR - NAME-------------BA -----OPS RF - SR - Mykenzie Hanna -- .397-----1.440 1B - FR- Makenzie Butt ------.359 ----1.371 CF - SO - Sophia Knight ----- .586 ----1.283 2B - FR - Quinn Southerland .500 ----1.231 DP - JR - Sydney Groves -----.339 ----1.189 LF - SR - Megan Lake --------.441 ----1.178 C - SR - Brooklyn Pettis------ .328---- 1.062 SS - FR - Chloe Hughes ----- .382-----1.017 The only usual starter who does not have an OPS of 1.000 or more is Junior 3B/SS Hollie Farmer whose batting average is currently .212 and whose OPS is currently .737. That 2-5 loss also snapped Boise State's string of games where the Broncos had scored at least 8 runs in each game at 16 straight games (dating back to Feb. 14th). Florida - 29 games - 58 home runs # 5 - Boise State & U.C.L.A. - 25 games - 44 home runs If Boise State keeps up this pace - in regards to team home runs - they will end this season with 98 home runs (Assuming they play 55 games total in 2025). The Boise State all-time team record for Home Runs was set two seasons ago (2023) when Boise State's softball team hit 81 home runs in that 2023 season (in 49 games). That was an average of 1.63 home runs per game in 2023. So far this season Boise State has averaged 1.76 home runs per game. P.S. Mykenzie Hanna, in her 4th season at Boise State, needs to hit 10 more home runs this season to break the long time career home run record at Boise State that was set by one of the original Boise State softball players. That being Devon Bridges - who played at Boise State for FIVE seasons from 2011 thru 2015. Bridges hit 52 home runs in those 5 seasons. Hanna currently has 43 career home runs and has hit 10 home runs (so far) this season (in 25 games). Bridges was granted a medical hardship by the NCAA because of a back injury she sustained in 2014 (she played in & started 13 games in 2014). This allowed Bridges to return to the team for a fifth year in 2015. Bridges hit 16 home runs in 2011, 14 home runs in 2012, 12 home runs in 2013, only 1 HR in her 13 game season in 2014 and 9 HR in 2015.
