Coog kev
I usually do not get involved with macro conference junks at all (except for UNLV undefeated in XII gridiron play re My slowly unfolding Up Coming gridiron Rebuilding squad and bankable hoops oriented Kansas). Nonetheless, CUSA squad UTEP to MWC. Good get. What both MWC and expanding survivor oriented PAC are missing/overlooked are these two in Texas finds.. Sunbelt Texas State and CUSA Sam Houston. We all know that any given AAC Texas squad will not go west at all. No way. No how. UTSA, North Texas, and Rice.. SMU done bolted to ACC this year. What exactly is the point of this babble? I would really like to see both Texas State and Sam Houston go west in whatever form so presented to join UTEP. Why so? For selfish reasons....more Texas gridiron squads become more wildly diversified, more successful, more lots of things. Sunbelt and CUSA are dead ends. Go West Texas State and Sam Houston. Go West. Coog kev
The thing about UTEP is this. They currently suck much on the gridiron. No state secret about that. However, they have a relatively newby young gridiron HC outta FCS land and he is working on things. Give Scotty Walden some time. To boot he is a Texas native with what matters most in Texas. Lots of HS coaching connections. In Texas any given college ball HC must have an abundance of HS connects on speed dial. Recruit in Texas first with its huge wide swath of talent. Subsidize elsewhere.
WAC_FAN
I'd invite Texas St (supposedly holding out for P12 invitation) and SHSU as well. UTEP controls their market but they've never been able to really recruit Texas heavily outside of it their area when I remember from the old WAC days--it's so far away from the Eastern Texas Metro area that it may as well be in another state entirely. I'm not optimistic they'll ever turn it around consistently but it's a good fit culturally, historically and their market size isn't terrible.
Beaver-Poke
Just went to Wednesday's win over FIU and had a fabulous time. The Sun Bowl is such a neat old stadium, and they have done a great job of sprucing up place with all the food trucks and new graphics on the concourse. Parking was a breeze, concessions were plentiful and affordable. Next they need LED lighting, the field was sort of dark and the new lighting system enables you to do the light shows that have become popular. The fans that we there were passionate about the Miners. The ticket person we talked to said the midweek games just kill attendance, a problem that will be resolved when they join the MWC. Even though they were winless, the team played very hard and the reserves seemed very involved on the sidelines. The new coach clearly hadn't lost the team despite the 0-6 start. Great bookstore, too. A positive experience all-around. 2
