MOUNTAIN West looking a little dry on the grid iron, Why does Louisiana move ahead of former member Louisiana Tech? Just curious, I don't know the state of Louisiana football these days. I think their ideal scenario is 4 more schools to get to 12.
LoboMan59
This news was just posted on the Forever Lobos site. Their Forbes metrics metrics put them at the high end of the MW. The low end of the Pac. However, their TV numbers are abysmal. Less than 60k viewers per game. I'm guessing their fanbase is at the games. 1 Quote "We don't have evidence but, we have lot's of theories." Americans Mayor
Poster17
Now with Hawaii as the 8th full member there is no reason to add more. Keep it at 8. We got as good of a conference that we can put together in this landscape. We will just be watering down the league by adding more. No one out there that we could truthfully get moves the needle. Stay with the 8. We got a good conference. 1

shizzle787
The Mountain West realistically only needs one more football member and one additional basketball school. Grab NIU in football and Grand Canyon in basketball. Call it a day.
agswin
Why didn't Hawaii put together an all-out petition to get all of their programs into the MWC many years ago? It seems they more or less sealed their own fate by lurking around the "do nothing" Big West Conference forever. They shoulda been actively working like one-legged men at a butt-kicking contest to resolve their stadium issues and their travel/travel subsidy issues. It is not like they just suddenly got plopped in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, by surprise. I think they have been there for a while. But they were not really working to resolve the time zone /tv coverage issues. They focused on gobbling up 3rd Tier TV rights for their local Hawaii TV partners and never gave two hoots about distribution on the mainland. With semi-respectable University and Athletic Department leadership and just a wee bit of forward-looking vision, they ought to have as nice of football facilities as anyone in the West and they coulda and shoulda been working on an invite to the PAC rather than just finally getting around to going all sports in the MWC. So, why didn't they?

They are a full member now and the MW is happy about that.
agswin
Good luck to UH as a full member of the MWC. How can fans of other schools not be excited about sneaking in a little trip to the islands here and there to catch a game on the road? It might even be a more interesting destination than Fresno or Boise.

Stay with the 8. We got a good conference. We can argue a lot about how good or bad the new-look MWC is, in my opinion there is no question that it will be significantly worse than the current version in almost every aspect. I think we added Hawaii because after getting negative replies from some other candidates this was probably the easiest option left to get back to 8 members. In that respect I tend to agree: It seems that most potential candidates that would have added significant potential assets in terms of markets, recruiting grounds, etc. are not going to join so rather than adding teams which add nothing but bodies we should stay at 8 until one of the more interesting schools can be convinced to join. Personally I am not sure if any of it will make much of a difference in the long run because the way college sports is evolving I expect that both the new-look MWC and the new-look Pac-Whatever will be on the outside looking in. 1

It doesn't make any difference in the long run as this is just the beginning of realignment. Why add teams that don't move the needle just to split TV revenue among them? Stay at 8 for the next few years and see what happens.
