Rebuild the MWC

So what's the plan?  Send out invites now?  Wait until you find out what happens with Memphis, Tulsa, Air Force, UNLV?  Tell me how Gloria convinces anyone to join with multiple schools hoping for the next invite to PAC or AAC.   Obviously the strategy with PAC2 and exit fees was a dud.  Next steps?

When one door closes another opens, the initial plan failed but the fact that it was implemented in the first place tells me they had to know this was a possibility.

Thankfully the longer the PAC take trying to figure things out it gives the MWC more time to respond, however frankly I'm surprised that their seems to be no word of the MWC taking any action. They should have announced "we are targeting the following teams" you'd think by now.

FCS BIG 4: Montana, MSU, *NDSU, *SDSU

(* = Football Only)

Gets you back to 11 full time members and 12 Football playing schools. You have others on standby due to the high chance of future defections but regardless would create instant stability and the choices would be seen as logical and smart (based on location, history and overall Football performance).

If and when more teams leave you have other options:

NMSU, UTEP, Sac State, Idaho

As crappy as UNM has been they shouldn't have veto power over adding NMSU if it comes to that.

Can't defend the Lobo's football program history, but it appears they are on a slow trek back (I hope). As far as adding NMSU, why would you care if UNM wants them in or not.

While I like the out-of-the-box thinking about adding Canadian schools, I don't know if that would help with a TV contract.  Would we need two contracts?  Are CBS/Fox available in the north?

I also think this is a move that should be examined.  I would think that a media contract in the US would be able to sell the content to a broadcaster in Canada

I suspect we haven't heard anything for two reasons.

First, unlike the six-Pac, the MWC may have decided it would be best not to publicize its target schools because once that information becomes public there's a risk of further undermining the conference's reputation (and by extension its bargaining position) if any of the targets decline to join.

Second, the FCS "Big 4" are probably doing the smart thing and declining to make any commitments to the MWC until they see how the Pac expansion shakes out and what schools will be left in the MWC.

The bottom line is that the Pac is now higher on the food chain than the MWC and will therefore eat first.  We'll just have to be patient and wait our turn.

I agree, it is very intriguing and I'd love to see what that would look like.  Personally I hope the MWC holds pat, waits for PAC to get rejected by the AAC schools and does what they should have done in the first place by reverse merging.

More likely is it that those who are still in the MWC are talking with other conferences to see what their options are. Right now, were the AAC to lose the 3 schools mentioned, they would be looking at adding AFA and one other MWC school while adding Tex. St. to stay in the San Antonio/Austin region. I do think UNLV is eventually added to the PAC. USU would be a good candidate for travel partner with AFA in the AAC. But, I can also see UNM and UNR on the phone with Pernetti right now.

Because I'm a Wyoming fan and am interested in the future of the MWC. NMSU makes sense as an addition to partner with UTEP and it would be a pity for them not to be invited just because UNM feels insecure about having another state school in the league.

NM better not become the new CAL in the MW. Remember it was USC that said no to PAC-12 expansion before the chaos started and look who was the first to bolt...USC and dragged UCLA with them. You need schools for protection against the AAC. The nPAC is on another agenda right now.

I don't know why this has even come up. There are no rumors or facts stating UNM is opposed to NMSU. Someone made that shit up.

It turns out that I do much prefer to align with the programs that want to be aligned with Utah State because of who we are and what we do.

I could not really care less what the Junior College with the gaudy orange uniforms and the neon blue turf decides to do.

They are still a joke of an academic institution that does not come close getting a sniff from any credible Academic Reviewing Agency or Reviewing Publication.

Fan the flames and pour some gas on the dumpster fire.  Lousy academics, tiny endowments, and non-existent research actually really does matter.

Let BSU and CSU FresNo be tied at the hip.  They really deserve each other.

Well,.... The MW gained exit fees. But all the FB and basketball power is now in the Pac with the Utags and Zags signing on the dotted line.

I agree USU should be in the conversation to join the P12.  Seemingly you have plenty of positives but no money.  Similar to UNM.  Why is that?  Wyoming has the money but chooses not to spend it or is it all about eyeballs?

It's the location. How many kids have stayed all four years in Laramie since COVID ?

Revolving door Portal and NIL will kill the MW.
