UNLV & Air Force in contact w/ AAC

• I was reminded by a former conference commissioner, however, that there’s a precedent to divide the schools. UNLV joined the WAC and left Nevada behind in the Big West in 1994. Also, the current governor of Nevada, Joe Lombardo, is a UNLV alum. 

• If UNLV and Air Force don’t land in the Pac-12, I’ll bet the American Athletic Conference would take them both. I’m told there has already been contact between those sides.

UNLV also joined the MWC without UNR. 

Anyways, this feels like a lateral move to me but if it means more TV money, then I guess you can't really turn it down

UNLV would be a fool to go to the the AAC.

Let AF do whatever they want they don’t belong at this level anyways. They can’t compete in NIL and beyond.

PAC-12 will immediately raid AaC if we are stupid enough to go there. Only way to prevent that would be signing a long term deal to lock everyone in and we don’t want to be locked in long term with AAC.

Let AF leave. Collect $100+ million. Dissolve MWC.

Horrible idea. It is a DEFINITE NO to the AAC. Not even an option. PAC-12 would immediately raid the day UNLV announced. Take the best AAC teams and leave us dead in the water.

This is a dying conference, people need to understand this conference is going to be a compilation of schools in the hinterlands. We cannot afford it. 
 

AFA is certainly gone. This conference is crumbling.

AAC has a better tv deal. Doubles the MWC tv deal which is certainly going to shrink in $$$ in the next talks. Which means if you are staying in the MWC, you will take a haircut. 
 

Second the 100 million dollar payout, is split up among 7-8 members. It’s not much and the way things are moving, nobody may end up paying anyway. You either move or get left behind. That’s the state of college athletics.

The AAC is about to be poached. We’re in discussions as replacements along with AFA.  
 

One UNLV is creating leverage over the Pac12, two we are looking at plan B. Staying in the MWC is not in the cards. I believe we would move to AAC with Utah State, New Mexico and AFA. ESPN/ABC would love to add these schools to their programming.
 

UNLV would be BACK on Big Monday ESPN.

I don't think UNLV going to the AAC is the total catastrophe you're making it out to be. It's probably a better place to be than the MWC at this point since it's more stable and has ESPN/east-coast bias on its side. It also doesn't necessarily have to be UNLV's permanent conference, just a stop on the road.

However, there is a chance that UNLV ends up as a target for the PAC. If it's true that all 6 members decide who they bring in, some may prefer UNLV over eastern teams. So to make a move now wouldn't be smart. I would hold out if I were the Rebs.

MWC can try to backfill with UTEP and NMSU to stay at a 9-team conference even with the loss of AFA

This whole situation is pretty lame. I foresee WSU being the king of that new PAC, and that's not very exciting. Honestly, even joining the PAC sounds like a huge bummer.

Both options with how this played out are a serious downer:

1. The way this played out either tells me UNLV is being used as leverage for UNR, which is insight into our political positioning which is just small time and lacks vision and sophistication. 

2. Or SDSU, FSU, Boise, and CSU have drunk the PAC arrogance Kool-Aid and did everything oh so sneaky because they are special now. The secret maneuvering and cutting us out was just petty BS, which is on par with how PAC has operated, no thanks. 

Either way, this whole thing stinks and leave us no good options. Hope to join a depleted Joke PAC? Are you kidding? This is lipstick on a pig. The brand is a joke now, no matter what anyone says. Fluff and buff the Yugo...for OSU and WSU?

Oregon State and Wazzu were owed more than what they got. These things always get paired down. The other thing is the bowl tie ins for the conference, that will significantly shrink as well as the ncaa credit distribution from tournaments. Conference tournament revenue will decrease along with zero championship game in football. 
 

Ten million dollars sounds nice but it’s not going to get anyone, anywhere. In the long run , unlv loses a lot of money and recruiting will nosedive in your proposal.

we have a free NCAA pass until 2028 to play with less teams. For 2028 we can add only ONE school and be fine, two if AF leaves (which we celebrate if they do). We keep all the NCAA credits we have earned in the MWC with now four or maybe five less mouths to feed. We are rich.

we have autobid to Playoff and need maybe two other bowl games to satisfy a seven team conference til 2028. New Mexico has a bowl game so that fills one slot, the second slot should be a new bowl game in Las Vegas at the new baseball stadium.

We own T&m so MWC tourney stays there.

what’s the problem? We be patient, collect all our money and get rich. The PaAC whatever does without us and can’t get a tv contract without us. They are desperate, make them beg.

The only reason we didn't take UNLV along with us is RebelRobert. Dump him, and we take you in a heartbeat.
