MWC Security is Better Than Ever: No MWC Program Will Ever Go To a Conference With Teams in the East.

Recommended Posts

Has it occurred to anyone that a Conference Realignment thread is no longer necessary? We are currently entering a Golden Era of MWC Athletics.

Conference consolidation has effectively made the MWC poach proof from any conference with teams in the Eastern Time Zone. We no longer need to hear anyone talk about these pie-in-the-sky conspiracy theories of teams leaving. I'll admit that it was getting to be a bit much in here when San Diego State fans were thinking the Pac 12 would knight them.

The only conference that is even a remote possibility for a lateral move is the Pac 2. However, the Pac 2 is a G5 - which is exactly the way it should be.

I highly doubt any Mountain West program will join another G5.

When Boise State and San Diego State left for the Big East, it was only because the Big East had Power Status. When the Big East became a G5, the prodigal Sons, Boise and SUDS, came back to the MWC. The Pac 2 is in the exact position Aresco was in when we lassoed the Broncos and the Aztecs.

I firmly believe that Gloria Nevarez will make OSU and WSU join the MWC - just like she made San Diego State fall in line. She plays hardball.

The MWC is literally the best league we can ever aspire to be in.

Nobody can talk about College Sports in the West without putting a crown on the head of the Mountain West. That's why it was good that the Pac 12 imploded.

The common consensus 10 years ago was that Stanford would never join the acc. Never/ever is a long time and realignment should have already taught us that we know nothing.  Just enjoy what we have because the only constant is change.

With all the instability going on, I wonder how much longer people are going to be comparing "academic rankings?"  I'm not sure how much longer things like that are going to fly, especially now that some colleges have closed their doors already and several others may suffer the same fate in the not too distant future.  Example:  Iowa Wesleyan University is where Hal Mumme and Mike Leach developed the Air Raid offense in the late 1980s and early 1990s.  Today, it no longer exists.

Don't kid yourself. Gloria didn't make SDSU fall in line, the Pac12 implosion did. That said, Gloria is most definitely a good commissioner.

MWC is dead conference walking.

Everyone and anyone will leave the second they offered.

PAC-2 will soon be a lot bigger. Not all of you are coming either.

Exit fees will make that very difficult for the PAC2 to pick and choose who they want. Geography also plays a part. IMO I think we’ll see a complete merger of the PAC2 and all MWC teams.

Actually, Gloria did make SDSU fall in line by not allowing the June 30 deadline to be pushed back as SDSU demanded.  SDSU threatened to take it to court, Gloria dared them to do it, but then SDSU backed down.  The reality is that the PAC was not going to invite SDSU as SDSU had spent the previous year assuming.  The Pac implosion did not officially occur until and the end of July.

The only thing certain is change. SEC and Big10 will have another round of alignment.

You're wrong on both counts. Your last sentence is correct, which is why they requested the extension. Kliavkoff's dragging his feet led to the need for an extension, and that of course led to the implosion. No implosion and SDSU still would have jumped, Gloria's actions notwithstanding.

You're assuming that the Pac wanted SDSU.  If they did, then they would have been willing to work things out.  The fact that USC and UCLA were willing to go to the Big Ten of all places means that the other Pac institutions were looking to do the same.  SDSU and the other MW institutions were the last thing on their minds.

After a certain point, when all was lost, you are certainly correct. The suddenly departing eight had to look out for their best interests, though many would say it's debatable if they chose correctly. Before that, when it looked like expansion was doable, and there was still hope for a decent media contract, SDSU and SMU were most definitely at the top of the list. If you don't know that, then you weren't paying attention.

How can you say that he's wrong on both counts, and then verify count #1?  SDSU stated that they could not afford the double exit fee, and Gloria said "too bad".  That part is documented.

Exactly when was the last time you were right about anything, Reggie Theus?

Who cares. It’s all water under the bridge now.
