Goober, ffs.

Please say you don't spell your strays' names creatively like, "fluphi"?

You screwed up your zinger to begin with, and now you’re claiming that I’m improperly using ‘Guber’?

HappyTrump you have lost your credentials to post on this topic on this board. You have consistently been the dumbest poster on this board when it comes to the border. My number 1 fave quote of yours on the Top 10 stupidest list is your claim that our southern border is militarized. It really doesn’t get any dumber than that. I won’t even waste my time debating anything on the border with you because you are that stupid.

And two of our most clueless board left wingers, @PokeTransplant and little doggie @GoDogs22, just lap up that ‘stupid’ like they just got a HappyTrump happy meal. You should be ashamed of yourselves.

Convert, we have an enormous paramilitary organization with the same budget as the entire defense forces of Spain built to defend the border. It has extraconstitutional enforcement powers within 100 miles of any border (including the ocean). We have a hugely expensive fence built on ~ 2/3 of what is already the least hospitable area of the continent for foot traffic - the only unfenced areas are so rugged, we can't really get fencing crews in there without building access roads (kinda defeating the purpose of the fence, heh). Our enforcement arm outpaces our judicial arm to such a degree that we have effectively no way to house people legally asking for asylum while we're just waiting for a judge to free up for a hearing.

I get that you're not very worldly but convert... the US/Mexico border is militarized. It is by far the most heavily militarized (and defended) border in the western hemisphere. "Convert doesn't know about the world" is not really the rhetorical tactic you think it is.

Remember that every argument you have with someone on MWCboard is actually the continuation of a different argument they had with someone else also on MWCboard.

Hell yeah. With the election around the corner Biden has to do something to reverse course.

Remains to be seen if the courts will throw it out.  The R members of the court who strictly interpret the Constitution may well say Biden overstepped his authority.

Article 1 Section 8 clearly defines Congress with the powers to create rules around immigration.

This won't do anything but increase illegal crossings.

What this country needs is immigration reform, but that won't come because Congress doesn't want to solve problems—unless it absolutely can't be avoided—because it's hard to campaign on an issue that's resolved.

People who hate on so-called "illegals" and say they are for "legal" immigration don't understand just how hard it is to legally emigrate to the U.S. Our immigration system sucks and doesn't help anyone.

There will never be immigration reform. The wealthy Californians love their cheap housekeepers and gardeners. My in-laws sure did.

You honestly think the reason there will never be immigration reform is because wealthy californians love cheap housekeepers and gardeners?? You think that's the reason?

Agreed on a few points. The US immigration system is hard to navigate and it is very challenging for immigrants- especially those without the means to hire lawyers to navigate its complexities. I disagree with the assertion that our system doesn't help anyone- The US welcomes more immigrants than any other country in the world by a fair margin. The US is still the land of opportunity- i've spoken to close to a thousand immigrants from different countries in Latin America and they feel the same way. My brother in law is a federal immigration attorney and has worked to help people gain legal entry and also to deport people that very much deserved to be deported. He goes on ad nauseum at how broken the system is as well.

Not saying this is you, but there is this endless back and forth between the right and left- the right accusing the left of wanting open borders and the left accusing the right of being racist or not compassionate towards those seeking asylum or fleeing dangerous situations. It's a bit exhausting like every other political discussion you see these days. Immigration is like healthcare in the USA- we all know it's broken but can't seem to agree on how to fix it.

How many immigrants should we allow legal entry per year? What should the criteria be? Are we obligated to let people in because they are poor and living in countries geographically close to us? We have to weigh the needs of our country and its safety over every other factor. Immigration is especially challenging in this regard. I don't have the answers, but these are questions I ponder.

I think we need meaningful reform to allow individuals to enter the country while mitigating as much of the illegal activity as we can. The US as a country and populace has a right to grant or deny entry to its borders. What that reform is I have no idea, but I liked a lot of the last bill that was floated and ultimately defeated.

Given how many Latin nannies push baby carriages holding white kids and sometimes Asian and Black kids around my neighborhood, I can't quarrel with that. However, California doesn't exactly call the shots on immigration reform. And California has far too many people already.

As for "banning" asylum, the ACLU might want to consider that the process can definitely be changed and the not exactly far right 60 Minutes had a segment a couple of years ago that opened my eyes to how many people are allowed to remain in the US while the immigration authorities try to confirm their allegations during which time they disappear and those whose statements are found to be bogus sometimes remain in the US for a decade or more despite no lawful right to have done so.

GOP candidate Larsen admits in audio to hiring 'illegals', now calls for immigration reform

In an audio recording obtained by The Nevada Independent, Republican congressional candidate Flemming Larsen said he employs undocumented immigrants at his California restaurants, referring to his employees as “illegals.”

Larsen, who is running in the Congressional District 1 Republican primary to take on Rep. Dina Titus (D-NV), owns several restaurants in Southern California. In audio of a conversation from a “Coffee with the Candidate” event in February obtained by The Indy, he lamented the amount of fentanyl coming over the U.S.-Mexico border and said that crossing points should be closed.

But he also acknowledged the importance of immigrant workers in the U.S. economy.

“There’s not a single person in this race that understands how important migrant workers are to our country,” Larsen said in the recording. “We need them here, and we need them here legally though.”

When asked if he employed migrant workers, Larsen said he employs “a lot of illegals,” a term that immigration advocates have long argued is dehumanizing and incorrect, considering that entering the country without documentation is not a crime.
