The government agency estimated Reno's population at 274,915 as of July 1, 2023, an increase of more than 10,000 since the official Census count of April 1, 2020. Reno's population surpassed those of Buffalo, New York; Toledo, Ohio; and Chula Vista, California, during the three-year shuffle of population changes. But in the list of Nevada cities, Reno has fallen to fourth — trailing Las Vegas (660,929), Henderson (337,305) and now North Las Vegas (284,771). The state's most rapid growth occurred in the Las Vegas metro area, which collectively added more than 60,000 residents. The city of Las Vegas is now the 24th-largest city in the U.S. after passing Boston and Portland, Oregon, both of which lost more than 3% of their population. Neighboring Henderson is up to 57th, and North Las Vegas rose to 75th. Overall, Nevada added an estimated 89,559 residents from April 2020 to July 2023 for a 2.9% growth rate. With an estimated 3,194,176 residents, Nevada remains the 32rd most populous state in the U.S., with 70.9% of the state's population living in the Las Vegas metro area. Chula Vista has a population of 282,000. https://worldpopulationreview.com/us-cities/chula-vista-ca-population Quote “Science is the belief in the ignorance of experts.” -Richard Feynman "When buying and selling are controlled by legislation, the first things to be bought and sold are legislators." -P.J. Provo/Orem are a distinct DMA. As is Ogden/Clearfield. They are considered distinct from the Salt Lake DMA. Quote "We don't have evidence but, we have lot's of theories." It doesn't include Carson City or Douglas County....or Fernley for that matter. Carson City has 60K, Douglas 50K, and Fernley 25K...all of which are 50 miles or closer to Reno. Including those, like Convert mentioned, puts the Reno Metro Area at 700K. I'd even argue that the California side of Tahoe and up to Truckee should be included in the Metro area. Remember the late 60's & late 70's when you could take Boulder Highway from Fremont to Rail Road Pass and the highway stood out with the headlights as portions of the highway went thru areas will little buildings along the highway -- things got sparse south of Desert Inn, picked up a few buildings at Flamingo then the gap to what little was there at "East Las Vegas" then it was nothing until you got to where Water Street / Lake Mead hit BH near downtown Henderson We rode in from BC last week & the wife & I commented on how Boulder Highway sort of blends in now due to all the growth and the freeway taking traffic away ---- It isn't a 4 way line of headlights like it once was

Water St. was the main drag of town, and maybe an old Beatty type of casino or two. Funny, back in the mid-80’s a guy I knew from Ridgecrest where I grew up said he and a few friends had heard that Beatty had a casino and a brothel. So they decided to dress up and drive across Death Valley and party at Beatty’s cool casino with all the glitz and ding ding ding for New Years Eve. Boy were they disappointed!!! LOL!! They hung around for an hour and went back home. Only in Beatty could you see a Bank of America in a small 1920’s house. They left, and it’s now the water and sanitation office, and another bank put an atm there. And they used to have an anti-B of A billboard up because they never gave any loans to locals.
