Even LIV Golf is producing their CW broadcasts. WWE is handling production when the CW takes over NXT broadcasts in the fall. Agree. CW does not produce their sports content. Their channel affiliates do not even have to air it if they don't want to. On 5/17/2024 at 11:23 AM, utenation said: My point was strictly from a cost standpoint. With that said, sounds like a good match for the P2. Back to my original point. I don’t think this arrangement is going to break the bank for the P2. My point was production costs may totally offset any income from the CW. There may be no $$ gain at all for the PAC 2 for the CW deal. Maybe they can leverage the PAC 12 studio to try and generate revenue but that remains to be seen. You are correct the contract will tell if we ever see it. People have live tv streaming apps. I have Hulu live TV, not cable. If you go with a specific app., the general public has to go out of their way to view your game plus they would need to be paying for it. Unless apps like Netflix or Apple TV want to overpay for MW games, it's not worth losing the exposure you'd get from OTA or cable networks.

Like you said, they have the Western B10 schools and the B12 has the 4 corners and BYU. Is that enough? I'm sure the MWC will start with Fox/CBS and go from there. Just a guess. Fox has late night Western spots with the four West Coast Schools. No need to buy MW content. Quote "We don't have evidence but, we have lot's of theories." I do think a lot of west coast football fans in general will lose interest for teams that no longer represent the Pac12. Not diehard USC or UCLA fans, but the casual fan immersed in the Pac 12. Stanford just became less interesting to those folks IMO.

BTW, I’m not sure UCLA has diehard football fans. Their attendance the last 5 years or so is barely better than top MWC teams. The Rosebowl is neat and all for New Years etc but the stadium is pretty much a dump. Worst site lines in any stadium I’ve been to.

There are thousands and thousands of Minnesota, Wisconsin, Nebraska and Iowa ex-pats living in Southern California who (at least at first) will flock to the Coliseum or the Rose Bowl to watch their home-state teams or their alma maters play. So they don't need to travel, a healthy fan base is already established in Southern California. UCLA hosts Maryland/Rutgers three times in the next five years. USC gers Rutgers, Maryland, Northwestern, Illinois and Indiana. Hardly attractive to the UCLA/USC fanbase.

ESPN+, Cbssports, etc. But don't hold your breath about being on Big Fox or CBS. The are very few in our most populous tv markets are staying up late to watch UNR and Hawaii. Trust me on this one. Also, I won't be surprised if the next MW TV Deal is meager on the dollars, high on Schools picking up the production costs. It's the way of late stage Capitalism. It's all about the ROI. 1 Quote "We don't have evidence but, we have lot's of theories." Americans Mayor

Outside of the annual ND game I guess. 2023 TV viewership link below, guess I didn't post it here previously. Interesting numbers, albeit only one year. You’ll see their sweat shirts all over the airports but they haven’t been able to fill their 50k stadium for years. Talk to these people about football and they will start rambling about Director’s Cup Standings. Harbaugh and Shaw brought some life to the program but it’s easy to see why their football program fades into irrelevance so easily. Shaw was the captain of a rudderless ship the last half of his time at Stanford.

The schools do plenty of their own marketing to help their branding but much of the branding was done by the TV networks over the past 50 years. TV exposure is a big plus when it comes to branding. In that sense, much of what we are seeing today is a self/TV fulfilling prophecy.

From what I have experienced at both stadiums, they are getting pretty long in the tooth and not really great places to watch football games. In fact, both now are pretty much dumps, with sight lines approaching the level of awfulness of the BSU stadium. Fun, interesting venerable venues, for sure. Fun to visit from a history perspective as any other. .
