And wow, you found one group , more like a few people that disagreed with him among one of the largest organizations on earth. Big whoop It wasn't a disagreement. It was a correction of one of his "truths". He got some basic theology very wrong. He got more than one theology take wrong. There has been both plenty of criticism and support for his speech, and people and groups are free to have their views. But, unless you know the content of the speech and understand the context of things stated, yer just pissin' in the wind.

Nostalgia isn’t a bad word, especially you being a diver and all the coral bleaching that’s going on. You may visit one of your favorite diving spots and it’s nothing like it was before, therefore you find yourself never going back. That’s how I felt about visiting Key West 10 years after I left. But, alas - there are so many other locations to dive/fish. I guess it's more the reminiscing people do and dwelling on the past, depressed in their current state instead of looking to improving their lives and their future. That's what I'm against. Even this thread refers to individuals talking about how things were better in the 60s.

First and foremost, I'm not a religious person and won't have opinions either way, so I won't answer your set-up question. However, it seems like a lot of judgmental takes in this thread for someone who spoke his mind at a Catholic schools graduation, which is one of the things Butker addressed in his speech. He also stated in that speech that the Church needs some cleaning up. He addressed a lot of other things as well. As I stated before, I thought some of the speech was off the wall, but I'm not going to get all butthurt about it like some people are. That's understandable because much of the content required some background knowledge. You won't find any comments here (by me) on the red meat stuff that got all the media play. I really don't have a problem with Butker's personal and family choices, or more importantly, his views on such. I also do not like some of the blowback on him for expressing his views, but the NFL is big business. My main criticism of his speech was his arrogance. Like I posted before, he's a 28 year old guy that thinks he has all the truth. Chosen by God to spread his truth. I've seen that movie before a few times. And, he got some basic teachings, history, and theology wrong. That's a bad look given his tone of certainty. Let's see where he goes from here. I'll be interested in any follow ups. I expect he will be in demand with certain media figures.

People have different opinions and this board, including yourself, is really good at alienating the ones outside of this chamber. As I stated, I'm not a religious person, so I didn't get all of the speech. With that said, I am a God-fearing man. Who or what is God is a question that can be for another discussion. Look, if you didn't understand the Catholic teachings, theology, and history embedded in his speech then you really can't understand the criticisms the Benedictine Sisters themselves, myself, and other Catholics have (towards that one specific speech). You won't understand his errors. You won't get why his uber Catholic presentation and tone mixed with those errors made for a failed speech. It's okay. If I read or listened to a speech on a technical subject that I'm ignorant of, I wouldn't get it either. That's the way it is for everyone short of rare genius.
