All I can say is I’m glad my wife stayed at home and raised our kids rather than me. If it were me they would both be in prison now.

And anyone that thinks women don’t have power is insane.

you are a lot older, no?

try having your wife, or husband stay home now

most people are scraping by and need the income

Here is some interesting research on the pros and cons of stay-at-home moms. However, there shouldn't be any cultural issues with moms working and dad staying at home either. It is tough economically for stay-at-home parents to cut out another income with the high price of just about everything.

https://www.verywellfamily.com/research-stay-at-home-moms-4047911

"Kids Benefit at Every Age

A 2014 study found that the benefits of having a parent at home extend beyond the early years of a child's life. The study measured the educational performance of 68,000 children. Researchers found an increase in school performance all the way to high school-aged children. However, the biggest educational impact was on kids ages 6 and 7."

"More people are becoming stay-at-home parents—and 60% of Americans believe that choice is best for children. The number of stay-at-home parents jumped from a low of 23% in 1999 to 29% in less than 15 years. However, today's rates don't match those of the 1970s and earlier when around 50% of women (and very few men) were stay-at-home parents."

Imagine getting offended at what he said . Snowflakes

it might be a guttural reaction of competing religons honestly.  like you respond with offense if you feel your religious faith is attacked?

(1) old religion (the guy is Catholic)

he said based on his religious Catholic belief the ideal to strive for is for mother / women to prioritize staying at home and raising children.  claims it empowers women to do this

(2) new religion (secular liberal humanism)

the doctrine that women are most empowered by seeking a career and prioritize that.  that cooking (making a sandwich) and cleaning is demeaning for women and that high powered career (not talking walmart cashier) is the best approach.  1950s is silly (I agree)

people will defend their religious beliefs like you see in this thread.

you must take either approach on "faith" that it is the best and proper course.

that said, when does football season start?

I believe women are probably happier in general having children and spending most of their time raising them (at least when they are little). Everyone is different though, but I will die on the hill that in general that what will make most women happiest is raising a family in a happy marriage.

It’s possible for women to have both a career and family; it’s tough, but worth it. And it takes a strong man behind them that has the same goals… to make $$ and have children and a legacy.

I would feel pretty useless if I didn’t create a family and I imagine most women and men without children do too, even if they won’t admit it. It’s human nature

Yeah most of us younger folk have a two income household out of necessity. When comparing median US income to median US income in 1985 vs 2022, the numbers are galling:

1985: Median Income: $23,620 vs Median housing cost: $83,200 (4x median income)

2022: Median Income: $74,580 vs Median Housing cost: $468,000 (Almost 7x median income)

You have to make relatively more these days to afford a house and pretty much everything else.

There are only two things I can't stand in this world: people who are intolerant of other people's cultures and the Dutch.

Disagree with you there, but it's probably due to who we surround ourselves with. The miss wants kids less than me and is a full on adventurer. She's gotten me to take so many amazing risks and visit so many amazing countries. All our friends are similar: adventurers without kids.

Our friends that do have kids have a great deal of envy towards us and in some cases animosity that caused friendships to dissipate a bit.

Nostalgia is a bad word to me and maybe that's why I have zero regrets. I mostly only look forward to the next event or adventure life has to offer. Zero concern of what we leave behind and definitely don't want to be tied down to a family.

Imagine being a douche bag from Idaho

You didn't listen to or read the speech.  He's a 28 year old guy full of himself in possession of the truth.  Arrogant to the hilt, and his truths are not all accurate.  He even got called out for an important inaccuracy by a major Catholic online today.

I bet some day you will have regrets and your friends with kids will be the one you envy. Maybe not now, but I’m betting that time will come. There is still time for you though

My daughter is the very best thing that happened to me. I recognize that that's me though. Some people don't want kids and can be perfectly happy without them. I think life is more rich with them, but to each their own.

I think there are ppl meant to have kids and ppl who are not. If the opposite occurs, their life can be miserable and without satisfaction.

I think too many people waste their 20’s these days, it’s all about being responsible and starting your corporate grind.

Nostalgia isn’t a bad word, especially you being a diver and all the coral bleaching that’s going on. You may visit one of your favorite diving spots and it’s nothing like it was before, therefore you find yourself never going back. That’s how I felt about visiting Key West 10 years after I left. But, alas - there are so many other locations to dive/fish.
