Funny you should mention that since it was a Mormon friend of mine who first mentioned it when the two of us were discussing religion, science and the like. At some point, he opined that I was clearly no longer a Christian and although that hadn't occurred to me, I agreed. That doesn't mean I think Jesus was a farce since there is too much evidence that such a man lived, was very moral and well-intentioned, etc. However, IMO at least that man could not possibly have supported the creation of a bureaucracy like the Catholic Church with all its foibles.
