There are fake Harrison Butker accounts and tweets going around. I wonder how many will show up here?

Who is the college teammate? So far, the source is a poster on TicTok that has zero evidence, no names, no source, nothing. Some sites have taken the accusations down. You might want to do the same if you don't have a credible source other than TicTok or other social media sites.

I don't know how legit the allegation is, but Butker certainly fits the profile of a guy who spends a lot of time at highway rest areas.

So he’s a Boise State alum?

There are only two things I can't stand in this world: people who are intolerant of other people's cultures and the Dutch.

BYU prolly a closer fit.

Could be either. Boise State because the nature of their work requires they be at truck stops a lot. BYU because… you already know.

1. It's Catholic doctrine that Creation and Evolution are not incompatible.

2. And there's not 1 Christian anywhere that merely think Jesus was 'a great man'.  Kinda runs counter to the whole idea of being a Christian.

1. I don't think they're necessarily incompatible either as it's quite possible that a divine being by whatever name created the universe or the multiverse as well as the principle of evolution.

2. Funny you should mention that since it was a Mormon friend of mine who first mentioned it when the two of us were discussing religion, science and the like. At some point, he opined that I was clearly no longer a Christian and although that hadn't occurred to me, I agreed. That doesn't mean I think Jesus was a farce since there is too much evidence that such a man lived, was very moral and well-intentioned, etc. However, IMO at least that man could not possibly have supported the creation of a bureaucracy like the Catholic Church with all its foibles.

Claiming that Jesus founded the Catholic Church is absurd since there is no evidence that term was even used until at least a century after Jesus's death.

While raised a Protestant, I was taught that all or nearly all the great things Jesus espoused were his divinely-inspired original thoughts. So maybe that's what Butker meant in that graduation speech of his. However, even that is highly dubious because so much of what Jesus was alleged to have been the first to say is rebutted by evidence that leaders of non-Christian religions said them long before Jesus was born.

For several reasons, Jesus was a great man. However, as most citizens of formerly "Christian"Western European nations now accept, that's all Jesus was and it's about time millions of Americans dispense with the "believe on faith"* nonsense that I was taught as a kid.

* You know, as opposed to logic and science.

Have you ever seen a statue of Peter holding a key?

This is the concept of Apostolic authority.   Basically the Catholic church claims that they have a line of apostolic authority from Jesus to the present Pope.

Protestants don't have that view, and view the Bible as authoritative and the final word, i belive

While He didn't build any basilicas or formalize offices or organize the Liturgy of the Word on a triennial basis, the Catholic belief shared by others is that the origin of the church begins with Jesus.

The institution which evolved doesn't subsume the church.  The church is not the buildings, offices, hierarchies, laws, etc.  The church is the mystical Body of Christ both triumphant (saints in heaven) and militant (on earth).  Theological not sociological.

Mt 16:18: "And so I say to you, you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of the netherworld shall not prevail against it."  The Greek word for church (ekklēsia) doesn't mean a building.  It refers to a gathering of community.  Jesus wanted a church that is the community of worshippers as the dramatic conversion of Paul in Acts also illustrates. The theology flows from these, but moreover from the whole story of Jesus (rather than simply isolated scripture passages).  After all, the church precedes the Gospels, Acts, and Letters.

So, Roman Catholics, Orthodox, Eastern Rites, and other Christian faiths consider Jesus as the founder of the church.

Yea dude, I know Catholics consider Jesus to be the founder of the church, I went through the confirmation classes lol. But I think his point is valid that the highly organized and structured modern institution of the Catholic Church did not begin with Jesus.

He missed the part that all that institutional stuff is not the church.  Same for Orthodox and most Eastern Rite Christians. I can't help it if people don't get basic theology.

Eh, most people don’t make that distinction between church and institution when it comes to the Catholic Church, which is why I think his point is one worth making. If you disagree, that’s fine.

I'm so glad that Jon Stewart is back. The last 2-3 minutes say everything.

Donald Trump is cancel culture.

His presentation style is funny, but his actual substance and takes are pretty lame and inaccurate. His is right that those Fox hosts are idiots. Bill Maher has the best takes on this sort of crap.

This kind of thinking fits in with a group the board discussed a couple weeks back that wants to make high tech fertility practices available only to women who want more babies. Not to those who are struggling to have one.

It’s an out rage he has received so much backlash. He gives a speech at a Christian College who supports what his speech is about.

Good grief no one believes in free speech anymore.

I have a feeling there is going to be backlash to the backlash.

You clearly don't understand the First Amendment.

He is a dumbass for preaching Christian values at a Christian school

It is a Liberal Arts College for women. He's basically telling them to forget their degrees, go find a husband and make Conservative babies.
