NDSU said no to CUSA informally according to sources , same with MAC & Sun Belt.

Mountain West/AAC or Big 12 only options

Then you are sticking with FCS then if they turned down invites from those leagues.  Getting your school into any FBS conference could have helped you down the line getting into a better FBS conference.  If they are so short sighted that they think they will get into the Big 12, MWC or AAC immediately (none of them have taken an FCS school), then they deserve to stay in the lower division.

IF the Mountain West suddenly needs schools, they are going to reach for FBS schools first.  UTEP and NMSU come to mind.  But right after them, I could see Sam Houston getting a possible look because they are FBS now.  I don't know if it would happen, but being FBS and being in Texas is two things that may make them attractive to a depleted MWC.

However, IMHO I don't know if it will come to that.  Either there will be some sort of merger with the PAC12, or OSU and WSU find homes in one of the other P4 conferences and the MWC stands pat, and this will all be moot.

(waves his hand in a Jedi style) "This is not the conference you are looking for.  Move along."

If I were the Bizen, I would stay the course at FCS.  Why try to come play in the cesspool called NIL / Transfer Portal / Musical Chairs Conference at this point?   They are a big fish in a small pond, and should stay that way.  Same with the Montana's, et al.

I’m thinking the MWC should trade Wyoming for them.

We would be much better off taking both Montana schools over UTEP and NMSU.

Probably will happen to Hawaii first, you should just cut your entire department now, before you amass an alarming amount of debt to replace that shitbox of a stadium you played in.  Getting to & from Hawaii is a pain in the ass, hence the subsidies.  The writing is on the wall, and you are deflecting constantly.

Why is it every time I see you post, I think about the scene in Little Nicky, and envision you as Hitler?

That would not make sense for expansion.  Montana has a population of 1.1M.  Same reason to not go after NDSU.  North Dakota is even smaller with 0.78M.  The only way going after small markets makes any sense is if there is a formal split between P4 and G5.  That may never happen though.  In today's world, it's an arms race for huge conference cable contracts (see ACC schools griping about BiG/SEC), NIL, and trying desperately to keep up with the Joneses.  The MWC already has small markets in Logan (55k) and Laramie (32k).  They aren't going to put Bozeman (56k) and Missoula (77k) at the top of a list when looking to grow the conference.  But if G5 breaks away and gets its own playoff for football, then i can see Montana, NDSU, and other schools being considered for good regional matchups.  NMSU and Las Cruces (114k) are also a small market.  UTEP would be a good candidate i would think basked on market size (EP has 680k) and facilities.  They have a sweet football stadium that sits over 50k and history with MWC schools.

I have nothing against Montana or NDSU to be clear.  Been to Missoula and its got a very cool college vibe and nice football stadium as well.  I just don't see small schools and markets being courted until G5 breaks away, if and when that ever happens.  I also don't think either of those schools wants to move up.  Both have a good thing going with sold fan support and a lot of winning at the FCS level.

The same way I envision Craig Bohl as Hitler.

The once confident Bizon can no longer kill the wabbits.  They are growing ever fwustrated!  Their fans like @lakesbison never speak of this as they fear it has cost them an invite to the much coveted MWC!

Their dome can't be expanded to hold beyond 20K.  That alone already cost them any consideration.

Football rules. What matters is TV Ratings. What makes Montana unique is even a Friday night cold game will draw a sellout crowd going ape shit. That makes exciting TV, and people not vested in either school will be drawn to watch an ape shit reasonably close game on national TV with no other games on. That compared to an empty UTEP and NMSU? Right.

Perfect explanation as to why Montana and NDSU are FCS i guess.  Again, makes no sense.  There is a reason both are FCS and aren't going FBS anytime soon if ever.  Meanwhile, NMSU and UTEP are and will be staying there.  I wonder if tv executive are aware of these full stadiums and great ratings.

But if the Montanas or NDSU are ever invited to the MWC before UTEP,  i will be the first to admit i was totally wrong about market size mattering.

Dude, you’re being totally disingenuous. If a Boise St. is playing at a crazy packed Montana stadium and the Griz are playing them close vs. Boise playing at an empty Las Cruces shithole destroying them 42-3, which do you think is going to do better in ratings? It ain’t even close.

Feel free to make up whatever dream you want.  Montana and NDSU aren't going to beat UTEP as an expansion candidate.  And they probably don't want to move from the friendly confines of FCS anyway.  A reminder,  i have nothing against Montana, NDSU, or any FCS school.  The hills Convert chooses to die on are always strange to me.  If Boise is playing Montana and its packed and its close and its snowing and fans are happy and...  Tv execs will see the great ratings, MWC will invite the Montanas and NDSU, and everyone gets a huge raise from that massive new tv contract.  Makes perfect sense.

😂😂😂😂😂 Just take the L and move on. NMSU and UTEP have no future at all. They are epic embarrassments and liabilities. Market means nothing. They could be in a market in San Jose like SJSU and still no one would watch or care. There are some programs that just don’t deserve to be FBS anymore, and those are 2 of them.

But what about that mythical Montana Boise game in the snow where the whole country is glued to the tv?  That's where the real action is at.  LOL.  And the winner gets NDSU in a packed stadium for even better ratings!  Now you have problems with SJSU too?  Who else are you going to complain about.  Liberty, GCU, do tell...  You are taking away Lakebisons thunder.

LOL, it’s not going to get big ratings. But if it’s on at a sports bar, or a cfb fan is scrolling through checking out what’s on, a close game in a packed house with lots of drama is going to keep some people from changing the channel. Lots of people cruise through to see if the game of the night is worth any time. If UTEP and NMSU are hosting a game, it’s a sure thing the channel gets changed. I’m not dying on a hill, I just pushed you down it. 🤣🤣

So to summarize.  Montana and NDSU will still be FCS.  NMSU and UTEP and SJSU (and whatever other school is floating around in your head tonight) will still be FBS.  And somewhere in the future there is an epic Montana Boise game that tv executives and the country will be drooling over.  Nighty night.  Strange dream for sure, but what the heck.  If Montana games float your boat, more power to you.  Nice small college town for sure.  Been there a couple times.  I'm sure Bozeman is nice too.  Now let Lakebison get back to telling us all how great NDSU is....

I’d trade Hawaii. Your stupid TV deal is reason enough.

Still crying about how you couldn’t watch Hawaii ruin your perfect season in 2010? Get over it, it was almost 25 years ago 😂
