If Gottlieb is an actual candidate that doesn’t bode well…

Why? I think Wyoming needs to think way outside the box tbh. The program has been run into the ground.

Bummer.  A creative hire with tons of connections in basketball circles and who might be able to energize a fanbase appears to be exactly what we need.

That said - I’m hopeful we could bring in a guy like Wicks but some fans might have already burned that bridge.

Cody is pushing for Steve McClain who he says is really interested in returning to Laramie. I have no idea if thats feasible. I think the logical thing to do is name current assistant Ken Deweese as the interim head coach and then spend some time building the infrastructure over the next year to attract a higher profile coach. The program is a mess right now and needs significant investment in rebuilding the fan base on top of a stronger NIL program.

I think Wyoming is suffering from a strong attachment to their Cowboy Joe CLub fundraising and they wont do anything with NIL to hurt it.  CSU had a similar issue under AD Joe Parker who pushed the Ram Club over any development of the NIL collective. Thats ultimately what got him sacked and that why CSU’s current interim AD came from the NIL collective.

The Cowboy Joe Club has its own issues as well.

Uh oh. Two players headed to the portal already.

Iheanacho and the Japanese big man.

It's a complete rebuild at this point and like others have said, next season was going to be a lost season anyway so it doesn't really matter how many players transfer

Yea Linder burning the place down on his way out by leaving the Cowboys with little ability to fill a competitive roster for next season is no surprise.  I expect Tainamo to enter as well.

Take our lumps next year and root for the Kobe Newton’s of the world.

The Pokes could be in a worse spot. What if his recruits and transfers decide to transfer out ?

The new Coach is starting from scratch after most of the Portal talent has been picked through.

Aren’t the kids in a similar predicament, due to the timing of the announcement?

Actually LOLFartz, it is great to be Wyoming.  The guy was worse than a cancer to our program.  You should be concerned for your own future, not ours.  May take a few years to right the ship (ala Tim Miles at Sheepstate), but he saw the writing on the wall.  Wyoming must be in your head 24/7 for you to be the first to post about it.  Well done.

Really???  Nico got signed to a an extension & gets close to a $0.5mm raise & which puts him #2 to CSU-Diego in roundball HC salaries.  He’s brought in a good group of Frosh & Portal Peeps, while Mbemba, Lake & Evans are all solid returning Rams.

My only concern involves whether or not ‘Nique leaves for The Draft.  He was recently selected for the NBA combines, thus I don’t like our chances.

Why are you concerned for us @Iam4wyo?

If there has been a bigger dick move by a CBB coach, I can't think of it.

Wyoming is better off without this low character, angry little man.

IIRC, the 7220 Sports piece said Sundance Wick got a generous extension after his first yr at Wisco-Green Bay Bowling Green that has a $700k buy-out.

Does the wy-hole's A-Dept have that kind of scratch?

Wasn't it TxTech that hired away Beard from UNLV?

Linder almost undoubtedly planned this timing months ago.  He knows there isn’t a coach in the country that Wyoming could bring in at this point who could achieve more than single digit wins next year because the portal has largely been emptied of talent and because Wyoming’s entire roster can now enter the portal for the next 30 days (3 have already entered yesterday).  Linder will point to Wyoming’s worse record next year to announce to the world that he wasn’t the problem.

As you state, the kind of character guy we are better off without for sure.
