where are they getting the water?

There’s a new Drink & Drive and Drink & Fly campaign to have Vegas visitors bring water with them to Vegas. Visitors are being encouraged to drink as much water as possible before they leave their homes and hold it in until they get to Vegas. Then they piss away, and the water will be separated from the sewage and put back in Lake Mead. Pretty cool.

The NBA said they will start looking at expansion once the new media deal is in place which is probably around mid 2024.  Is Vegas going to just build a new house no matter what or wait until there is more concrete info on selected cities? I'd build right now if the funds are there. I read something that Shaq and or LeBron James are looking to be owners in Vegas. Shaq likely wouldn't be partners, he said he wants it all to himself.

Btw, not many people here probably remember how bad ass Seattle was as an NBA franchise.  The Kemp/Payton teams were very good and battled very good Jazz teams back then.  Malone vs Kemp and Payton vs Stockton.

The Northwest feels empty with just Portland. And that team has been ran into the ground.

Us old guys remember Lenny Wilkins, Gus Williams, Jack Sikma, etal.

Anywhere they can.

There have been water wars between Vegas, Northern Nevada Counties, and even Utah over water.

The same is happening in St George where they are trying to cook up a very expensive scheme to bring in water from the Colorado (lol). The building boom is also devastating Desert Turtle Habitat and populations.

How in the hell could they get any allocation from the Colorado?  They'd have to spend a fortune on water rights

If the NBA lands in LV before a new arena is ready, then T-Mobile would work with some scheduling & could always use the T&M which has hosted NBA in the past as an emergency option - The development isn't just the arena, it's a full blown hotel/casino/arena/with entertainment district

Interesting that the location Leiweke is proposing for the new NBA arena, hotel and resort is immediately adjacent to where the new Brightline West station is planned, that would bring in visitors by high speed rail from Los Angeles.  Construction of the station is just getting underway and scheduled for completion in 2027.  Per Wikipedia:

The two-story station will be situated on a 33-acre (13 ha) site on the west side of Las Vegas Boulevard, between Blue Diamond Road and Warm Springs Road, across from the Las Vegas Premium Outlets South. The surrounding 110 acres (45 ha) provide space for transit-oriented development.

It seems Leiweke is intent on being the builder of that "transit-oriented development" with the arena as its anchor.  Smart play IMHO.

New breaking recently of another NBA arena - this one at the north end of the Strip by LVXP Group where All-Net Arena was planned but could never get the financing ....... this is in competition with the Oak View Groups Arena plans south of the Strip

cb-LVXP-site-Google-Earth.ashx?mw=768

Real estate development company LVXP announced Monday that it plans to deliver a 27-acre experiential mixed-use development on the Las Vegas Strip that its hopes could serve as the home for a new NBA franchise. The site sits across from the newly expanded Las Vegas Convention Center, adjacent Fontainebleau Las Vegas and near Resorts World Las Vegas. LVXP’s development is expected to include an expansive retail plaza, state of the art convention space, a destination casino, and several ultra-luxury hotels and residences, as well as a sports and entertainment arena. The site was previously part of businessman Jackie Robinson’s efforts to build an arena for a potential Las Vegas NBA team, which ended without success last year. The entertainment and sports arena would have between 18,500 to 20,000 seats. LVXP, which was founded in 2023, has indicated the project would be a multi-billion-dollar development.

Las Vegas-based Steelman Partners is designing the LVXP project’s architectural plans, and LVXP has hired Nick Tomasino as Chief Construction Officer; he most recently served as SVP of Construction at Madison Square Garden Entertainment where he managed construction of The Sphere.

Go big or go home. The firepower of Vegas to build things never ceases to amaze me.  Vegas has about 45 towers above 400 feet mostly all built in the last 20 years. I'm not sure many places in the world can rival that to be honest.

Couple dozen Chinese cities.

I worked in China on two different occasions 5-6 years ago. It’s mind boggling how massive their infrastructure is. The Beijing airport is insane.

400 ft is really no big deal.  NYC has 10 buildings 800+ ft under construction right now.  Miami has 6.

Meh. You and your semantics. The point is Vegas has been on fire with construction the last 15-20 years.  I also don’t think comparing cites like Vegas which is a decent sized city but not New York or Miami.

Miami’s metro is about 6.2 million. New York‘s is just under 20 million.  Vegas is about 2.2 million.

Dubai has built way more.  This is old info, but relevant to your claim.

Either way, I’m impressed with Vegas construction the last 20 years.

Weird thing about Vegas area high rises is that for a metro area of 2.3 million population, if you removed all the hotel & residential condo high rise towers, all we would have are two 18 story buildings separated by a few miles, maybe 3 10+ story towers and that's it -- From an high rise office building stand point vegas might be behind Boise & comparable to Reno

On this list of 42 high rises not one is an office building  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_tallest_buildings_in_Las_Vegas
