Part of that is teams can't leave a great player out on the ice for 55 of 60 minutes, as @renoskier noted above, the shifts are pretty short and sometimes a whole shift could be in the defensive zone so whatever scoring skills a player might have are negated

Here's VGK's Jack Eichel's time on the ice from last nights game -- a lot of things have to go right or very luckily in your favor to get a goal when your time on the ice at any given moment is under 1 minute -- Echel's longest shift was the final shift when Vegas had pulled to goalie

I was curious on some business items of the NHL.  One big player missing from branding and apparel is NIKE. The monster that has their hands in just about everything major in USA sports.  I always look at jerseys etc.  Adidas has the contract now but that ends after this season. It was Reebok before that going back to 2005.  I’m an Adidas guy myself.

it will be interesting to see who gets the next contract. I’m really surprised Nike isn’t a player in NHL.

Another thing that’s a big deal is equipment. Gloves, pads, helmets and sticks. Seems like CCM and Bauer are the only games in town.

Think Hockey is so specialized in their equipment & uniforms that some of the major players don't go in too deep (yet) with hockey

But jerseys are pretty easy. The equipment for sure is specialized.

CCM and Bauer have also been around forever.

I've noticed two levels of jerseys -- There's the official game type and there's one that has the same look but costs less -- the difference is minor but the cost is about 50% less

Now that Fanatics has entered the fray there will just be one level of official NHL jersey, the Fanatics total crap quality offering!  That company produces pure crap.  The Old Navy of professional licensed merchandise.

If you can buy another brand for your fav NHL team do it now!

Nike bought and owned Bauer from 1994 to 2008.  It didn't go well.

Nike was in the hockey game back in the 90's and owned Bauer from 94 to 2008.  Fanatics has the new contract to produce official NHL jersey's whjich is not good news in my opinion.   Just look at how this has gone for MLB.

Shades of 2023 as the Bruins squander yet another 3 games to 1 first round series lead and are pushed to a game 7.  This is the 4th consecutive (2013, 18, 19 and now 2024) time the Leafs and Bruins are going to a game 7.  Game 7 back in Beantown this Saturday is going to be a battle!

I’ll have to read the back story on why it didn’t go well. But honestly, doesn’t break my heart that Nike doesn’t control this sport like it does with so many others.

The Dallas/Vegas series was very entertaining. I think Colorado wins the series with Dallas.

Colorado vs Edmonton would be a great series -- Mc David & McKinnon

Guys how good are the Rangers? Down 2-1 in tonight’s game but they seem to be rolling through the competition in the playoffs.

Pretty damn good, between them and the Knicks, MSG is rocking these days!

So apparently I missed some good fights in the Boston/Fla game tonight.

I’m trying to figure out if there is a common factor in the NHL that leads to fights. I’ve seen many scuffles and pushing but no brawls.  They usually get broken up quickly.

So what leads to gloves off going at it?

We've seen fans of teams make cringy songs.  The Edmonton Opera gave us this dandy for the Oilers' Stanley Cup playoff run.
