I’d be surprised if he could recruit anywhere near the level he did at UNLV. Without that, how would he succeed? Honest question because he seemed to be the type to recruit a bunch of talent and hope they can figure it out on their own. At least that’s what it seems like to hear some UNLV fans talking about him. He did do less with more from a talent and resources perspective.

I’m not sure any UNLV hire after him has done any better and many have done worse.
bigd
I still want to see him hired to start up the Nevada State basketball program. Supposedly they're getting a big donation to build an arena. They'd be a nice fit in the WAC down the road.

Nevada Convert
He would’ve been a good fit at CSU Bakersfield’s recent opening.
rebelcuff
I just don't think UNLV is a good job for a first time head coach.

Menzies elevated the program from the shambles Rice left it in. TJ openly mailed in his 2nd year here. KK had a better year this past year than Rice did any of his past 3 years. It's simply legendary how thoroughly Rice destroyed the UNLV program. 4
RedheadRebel
Marketing, recruiting, hype and strength of schedule were strong with Rice. That's about it. That said, he still bleeds Rebel red and I wish we'd done him the courtesy of finishing out that last season before letting him go. Stacey Augmon and some others from the champ team still won't come around because of that. Wishing Rice great success in the new gig and would love to see him eventually back in Vegas and coaching Nevada State when they're up and running.

It's simply legendary how thoroughly Rice destroyed the UNLV program. Menzies took over for Beard, conveniently nobody remembers that Beard told remaining players to take a hike and then he himself bailed after dealing w/incompetence. Rice was long gone and any roster changes is on the administration that bungled the whole program.
