NHL IN SLC Utah 2024/25

Recommended Posts

Seravalli been known to be full of crap so I take it with a grain salt.

I believe this the NHL warning shot to Murello to get that lot of land won from auction or else. NHL seems to be pretty happy with  Ryan Smith and wants to reward him with a team. Relocation or Expansion.

This move is all but done..........  The Yotes story is one of homelessness in AZ.

Glendale kicks the Yotes to the curb by telling them to move out of Gila River Arena.

The voters in Tempe reject building a new arena.

The Yotes have played the past two seasons in the 5,000 seat ASU hockey arena.  This will be the scenario until at least 2027 when a new arena might be ready if they win the auction for the new arena.  Imagine another 3 seasons in a 5,000 seat arena.  Ooof!

The mayor of Scottsdale is now throwing a fit over the Yotes arena development plan.  This in my mind is the last straw.  Too much uncertainty.

NHL, welcome to Salt Lake City!

Think you're right..........the process in AZ is taking too long and there seems to be some resistance to every move the Yotes try to make in AZ.

The time might be ripe for AZ to move it to SLC, same region so no shake up in division / travel

Don’t be surprised to see both the NHL and MLB in Salt Lake before long. There’s a lot of momentum and financial backing on both fronts.

Not to mention, state political support already approved. Ryan Smith doesn’t mess around. Nor do the Millers.

I think the NHL has had enough playing in the Mullet arena and the new arena wont be ready till 2027 the earliest. I bet NHL is gonna try to do a Ravens/Browns move with moving the Yotes to SLC, changing the name and giving Arizona an expansion team and keep their history.

I have yet to see anything that makes me believe that the NHL can be successful in the Phoenix area. That team has been in the area for decades and I don’t think they have made a profit even once in all that time.

It's the youth hockey in Arizona thats booming and the main reason why NHL has put up with this for so long.

Rumors are the Ryan Smith group is prepared to offer $1 billion for this team. With the trouble in PHX and the fact that the current owner paid about $3-400 million, that would be a hard ROI to turn down.

Smith would make an NHL team here successful and profitable. Utah residents are pretty fanatic on sports in general.

Nah, not the Yotes.  The NHL owners want the FAT new franchise fee $$!  SD is on the list with KC and Houston for future NHL expansion.  At present only SLC really makes sense as it's a ready to move in situation.

The Mullet 2.0 Arena in N. Scottsdale looks sweet.

About a decade too late.  This could be the home of the Coyotes 2.0 but me thinks the 1.0 edition is on it's way out of town.

Right now locally, there's a lot of talk and meat on the bone about new arena(s) to the valley. The Delta Center is a great remodeled arena but terrible for hockey.  The two areas of topic are more property downtown SLC with a Sports Entertainment District and putting another arena in the South Valley closer to Utah County. 15-20 minute drive from downtown SLC. I think the final decision will be the best tax breaks.

If we get an NHL team, I'm 100% confident they will get a new arena. Whether that's new digs shared with the Jazz is the question.

VGK played a pre-season game up there in the Delta Center a year or two ago..........think one end had to have the seats collapsed to fit the rink in, which made for a loss of seats and bad views at the one end.

When LV had the IHL Thunder hockey team, the same thing had to be done at the T&M to fit the rink in......... The images below is arena football, but they use a hockey rink sized field so you can see the one end has the seats stacked

Interesting, this is the same owner as the GSR in Reno who is planning to build a new basketball arena. There have been rumors that their minor league team would move to the new arena in Reno.

The sight angles are terrible and the acoustics are off. The place was built to get really loud and have sound bounce off the walls for the Jazz with a basketball sized floor, not hockey. Concerts are absolutely terrible at the Delta Center.

We actually have a good hockey arena mid valley but not state of the art. . The Maverik Center.  Houses the Utah Grizzlies (AA team). But I think Smith wants a fresh stadium with all the modern bells and whistles.
