son of a gun

Damn you WWE, near 20 years out of it, and I got reeled back in.

Vanderpump Rules and Below Deck fanboi here.  I am guilty AF on that front, although both are totally played out at this point.  It's fun for a few years.

Below deck is still good, last two seasons have been fire fests.

I never admitted to liking Le Mis. I used it as an example of fine art, which it is. It is obvious you have reading comprehension problems.

Lol yeah right. That’s my go to too when I’m trying to seem classy and cultured to look down on others. Was the Man in the Iron Mask better than Stone Cold putting Brett Hart in the sharpshooter as well?

We’re all sitting in the dugout. Thinking we should pitch. How you gonna throw a shutout when all you do is bitch.

Did you miss the part in this thread where I said I enjoy Natty Light Beer, and country music from my Grandpas generation. Because that is absolutely trying to come off as a condescending asshole.

Can you read son ?

I still can't believe pro wrestling is so popular with grown adults.

UNLV had a winning season and made it to the championship game. Maybe there is someone looking out for you after all.

Need any tips on how to condescend?

Obviously not.

But some Christians in this thread didn't need any tips either.

Huge 'wrasslin fan as a kid.  I had some moves I used in the neighborhood.  I outgrew it.  Very little interest over the years.

Oly Trials begin very soon.  It's a complicated format, and I don't follow that closely, but will during the Games.  Still stunned by Gable Stevenson winning gold in Tokyo.  Repeat would be huge, but I expect very challenging.

Steveson is under a WWE contract and has faced some not so great accusations towards him. I'd be surprised if he moves on past the trials, but I suppose that anything can happen.

Hey atheist boy, you don’t believe in God, but you believe in UNLV? Maybe in your mind, if 85% of the world believed in a sky UNLV, there wouldn’t be any violence…..but they would still be losers! 🤣

I've missed or skipped most of that stuff.  Not even clear if he goes to the trials.  To me, a shame a 20 year old kid wrestling in college gets HW gold and then semi-ices his competitive sport.  He should have waited on the WWE until he at least tried to defend his gold.

I'll admit that it's in the eye of the beholder, so you have a good point here.  I like lame Rom Coms and the Spin Doctors,  things everyone else despises.  It's just fun to rile up wrestling fans bc they are so touchy about the subject.

Irony is fun...

It gives me a headache just trying to think down to your level

Well, at least Convict's posts were limited here.

Yeah, 20 years ago, I was in my early teens. I had watched pro-wrestling with my grandad and my mom when we visited him, and when I could, at home. Are the stories silly or over the top? Yeah, that's part of the charm.

But before putting these guys down, look what they have done in the ring. You have high flying luchadore wrestlers, that perform incredible acrobatics. You have technical wrestlers that have an answer for nearly every move thrown their way. You have powerhouses that pick up and throw around 200lb up to well over 400lbs wrestlers all over the ring. Then there's the dare devils that have risked life and limb. From Mankind's now legendary toss from the top of a steel cage through the announcer's table 30ft below, to the TLC matches between the Hardyz, Dudleys, and Christian and Edge. To say nothing of the matches since. Clips are easy to find on youtube.

Call it a guilty pleasure, call it coping, whatever. This is a board filled with 30+ on up to far more elderly, yelling at kids barely out of high school to somehow carry the hopes of their schools throughout the season. Is pro-wrestling scripted? Yes. But never doubt their athleticism, their passion to put on a good show, and their want to please the crowd as best as possible.

Thanks for clarifying that it’s scripted. 🤣

I don’t think anyone thinks that what they do is easy and not physical. It’s a combination of a touch of gymnastics and stunt moves you’d see in a movie, except stunt fighting looks more real in a movie because of selective camera angles and sound editing.

I think the problem most people have had with it over the years is:

1. The story lines and characters have been so corny, cheesy, tacky, etc. and over the top, immature overdose testosterone white trash.

2. The fact there’s no wrestling going on even if it’s fake.

3. The fact that they attempt to play it off as if it’s a real sporting event.

4. It looks ridiculously fake. The audience during the filming of the Ricky movies obviously knew it was fake, but it looked a hell of a lot more real than pro wrestling.

Spoke to soon. Convict showed up again, giving his "expert" opinions.
